_dfcacjpgThis is the game of Myst, recreated in Minecraft. All of the puzzles intact, however many are a bit simplified due to space restrictions from redstone. There are now videos from the original game included, as well as .txt versions of the journals from the library.

All the main ages are complete, including their puzzles, Rime may get added later though it doesn't really have any puzzles so it's not that interesting in my opinion.

Here you can follow all the work that went into this, and get the most up to date download, and check out some photos and videos of it all

Make sure to download the videos here as well

Update #37 : 04/25/2012 12:30:47 pm4/25/12

There should be no more glitches from the Minecraft update to 1.2.5, but feel free to post anything you find. I've also added new videos but due to the file size they must be downloaded separately, http://www.mediafire.com/?hvm2u032syeguk7

Update #36 : 10/09/2011 2:28:12 pm10/09/11

New update: clocktower puzzle is better, fixed a couple issues in stoneship (ice/snow and broken portal), and mechanical should be sprint proof.
I might add invisible walls to certain areas for 10.1

Update #35 : 09/04/2011 2:33:20 am9/04/11

Been updating parts of the main Island, added some cosmetic changes and changes the puzzle to access the clock tower (see the new picture). I plan to go in and change the puzzle inside the clock tower, possibly using pistons and sand. If you have any ideas feel free to pm me :D

Update #34 : 08/08/2011 1:43:45 pm8/08/11

9.2 here fixing some issues in Selenitic and making the mazerunner stops work a lot better with the booster track pieces :D

Update #33 : 08/02/2011 8:15:36 am8/02/11

9.1 here fixing something I forgot I left in stoneship and reworking something in Rime

Update #32 : 08/01/2011 10:33:15 am8/01/11

Did quite a bit of sprucing up for 9.0, stoneship, channelwood, and mechanical all look quite a bit better now with more atmosphere :D

Update #31 : 07/28/2011 12:48:13 pm7/28/11

Just changing the file format back to .zip so everyone can more easily enjoy :D

Update #30 : 07/24/2011 12:56:21 pm7/24/11

There we are, if anyone has any better ideas for the floating chest please let me know :D

Update #29 : 07/24/2011 12:35:57 pm7/24/11

About to put up another update, made the stoneship lighthouse behave more like it should :D Still can't have a real floating chest, but it's still better now

Update #28 : 07/21/2011 2:53:57 pm7/21/11

8.3 here with a couple changes, nothing super interesting: the cabin puzzle works better now, the nether rails work better now (you wont have to recenter your cart due to button issues), and a couple extra signs to make stuff less obscure

Update #27 : 07/18/2011 8:32:56 am7/18/11

YouTube user LpingWithArdwick has begun uploading videos from a let's play of Mystcraft, with a couple very neat improvements.

Check out the first video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Osyx2fJ6aYA

Update #26 : 07/14/2011 12:16:42 pm7/14/11

I do wish there was more of a point to Rime, and I don't just mean what I've transcribed into Mystcraft, I mean the original Age from realmyst, there's only a couple short puzzles and no real reward, just a few easter eggs and electricity machine :|

Update #25 : 07/14/2011 9:45:40 am7/14/11

And here's 8.2, had to go in and quickly fix something I forgot to reset ><

Update #24 : 07/14/2011 9:45:21 am7/14/11

8.1 is here with Rime :D

If someone who's much better at video recording/editing wants to make a trailer video, I would be super happy with them x:

Update #22 : 07/10/2011 3:40:34 pm7/10/11

Update #22 : 07/10/2011 3:40:19 pm7/10/11

I have successfully made an up and down piston elevator :D Now to stick it into myst...

Update #20 : 07/08/2011 3:06:19 pm7/08/11

About to release version 8.0, this one has all my piston implementations, fixes the sounds in Selenitic not working with beta 1.7.whatever, and has access to where I will be building Rime. sadly, Rime hasn't been started yet, but you can still get to the build site :P

Update #21 : 07/08/2011 9:10:20 am7/08/11

Version 8.0 :D

Update #19 : 07/05/2011 1:12:47 pm7/05/11

Trying to strategically flood areas in stoneship is proving tricky, would be much easier with finite water :|

Update #18 : 07/03/2011 3:32:07 pm7/03/11

Finished Rime access on Myst Island, and the bridge in Channelwood. Next will be working in Selenitic, Stoneship, and making Rime.

Update #17 : 07/03/2011 10:43:11 am7/03/11

Day 1 working with pistons: got the library bookcase done, access to the white page done, and most of the access to the Rime portal done.

Next will be finishing access to Rime, then either working on Rime or reworking stuff in stoneship/selenitic/channelwood

Update #16 : 06/28/2011 7:46:43 pm6/28/11

Updated to version 7.5 which fixes an issue in D'ni which made the game unwinnable, hopefully no more issues exist so I can focus solely on putting in pistons

http://www.mediafire.com/file/9x1ytqjwd9q6z92/MystCraft%20v7.5.zip

Update #15 : 06/28/2011 6:16:16 am6/28/11

Here's a quick list of things planned for when pistons are integrated in game, assuming I can have them behave as I assume I can:
1) The library staircase
2) Real underwater bridge in Channelwood
3) Real elevators on Myst and in Channelwood
4) No more obvious iron door next to the dock
5) Access to Rime
6) Controllable water in Stoneship lighthouse
7) Real flowing water noises in Selenitic (rather than sploosh noises)
8) Possible change in Myst clock tower puzzle
9) Anything else that gets suggested or I think up later on

Can't wait till 1.7 thursday :D

Update #14 : 06/26/2011 1:42:21 pm6/26/11

Began working on stuff for Rime today, it's gonna be a tricky battle to fit all this redstone onto Myst island for the portal access, but I think it'll definitely be worth it. Sadly, I have to wait for pistons to implement it all fully

Update #13 : 06/13/2011 7:45:57 pm6/13/11

I submited Myst to the newest Worth1000 Minecraft contest, themed videogames. You should totally go and vote for me

Are you going to do a remake of thsi epic map? You know, there are things like commandblocks etc. now, it would be great if those would be used there. But if you don't want to, I would - only with your permission of course - do it instead.

Here I was JUST thinking of recreating the island, purely aesthetically. I'm googling images of the island for references and low and behold, this pops up. Not only has it already been done, it includes the puzzles and other Ages as well. T.T

This is amazing btw. I'll eventually download and play it.

Oh, and don't be mad if I take my shot at Myst Island anyway. :)

Amazing! It looks nearly like the original! Good job :D

But unfortunately, it seems that some redstone circuits arent working: The dispenser in the cabin on Myst Island doesnt work and the final Mystgate on Stoneship has got some trouble with the iron door... would be nice when you could repair and update it :)

I tried to complete this custom map with my brother to post on YouTube as part of my HD live-commentary Game-play series. We could not get past the mine cart tunnel area. It was very difficult and we gave up after an hour of trying to figure it out. Perhaps there could be a hint as to what directions need to be taken?...or whether the music notes in the stops mean anything...just a thought.

justintib
Level 40

The music that plays at the stops is the hint :P There is no area that is solvable only by trial and error, there is always a clue

JustinPBanko

July 14, 2011, 6:15 am

I figured that it was a clue, but whether you specify or not is the issue. I noticed that a lot of people are having trouble having not played the original game, myself included. It seems that a hint at the beginning of the mine cart area in regards to what the notes may mean, or a riddle of sorts, might be a better way of going about it. All-in-all it is a magnificent custom map. You definitely took a large amount of time to make it. Great job! It was just too difficult at points for my brother and I. I didn't have much fun getting frustrated by the endless mine cart tracks. :)

Sadly I do see quite a bit of issues arising from people not having played the original, however my transference doesn't rely on you having played it. It is (though some areas are simplified) a replica that does not add or remove (with the exception of some decorations and redstone limitations). The way the minecart track is set up, paying attention from the beggining gives you all the information you need to get through, but I can definitely see why it's such a tricky puzzle (when I played the original back in the day I was so lost on it). Also, if you happened to visit the mechanical age before selenitic, you should have a bit of a clue from there about the notes.
At any rate, thank you for your kind words, and if you do end up posting any of the videos please share :D

Yeah I think the problem with the selenitic maze is, not only was it an incredibly tough puzzle in the original game, it's more difficult in the minecraft version for a couple reasons. First, in the original the videos for travelling between nodes made sense in terms of what direction you were heading, whereas in the minecraft version you kind of twist around randomly on the minecart tracks. Secondly, in the original you knew which direction you came from for each node, whereas in the minecraft version there's no indication (all exits look the same). Finally, the colors instead of direction names requires some mental work to keep track of.

I'm not sure what can be done to make this any easier without spoiling the puzzle too much. Plus I can't imagine how much work it would be to re-do that puzzle :P

Maybe one improvement would be putting a sign for the direction you came from, instead of a button? (Since "backtrack" would always send you back the way you came). That might help out a bit.

I was planning on posting the entire adventure when we finished, but we spent about 3 hours just to get to the mine cart area...and then about 30 or 40 minutes on the cart. I would have posted if we were able to actually finish. :P

Sad.. too much to edit down? And do keep in mind that this is the entirety of a real game, not just an adventure map I made up so a real let's play would take quite a while :P

JustinPBanko

July 14, 2011, 7:43 am

Oh, no, not to much to edit down. We just never finished the game. I can always make a really long series. That means more videos uploaded to YouTube. :D I just don't want to upload an incomplete game-play series to YouTube, so I normally do the entire game at once and then edit it into parts. Perhaps we can try to play it again from the beginning and I could update you on that. Also, I was just curious, do the Library books actually give information on the game, or is it just a background builder to form the plot? I tried to skim through them while we were playing, but didn't read them in their entirety.
