Welcome to the Portland city hall, or town hall as some of the locals call it.
This building is home to many of the cities Music and Cultural events.Its Neoclassical design is renowned around the city for its high-class dining, breath-taking architecture, high-quality events & functions. the building only has the exterior done, I'll do the interior later on in the coming months.

History:
ever since the early days of the city in 1854; when the city was starting to fill up the few remaining blocks of the CBD (central business district) the city needed a place for the higher class to hold events. so the state government appointed to the best architect & designers in the state.
After 2 months of waiting, the state government of Victoria was appointed a design by a Melbourne architect; James. r. Franklin. the original design for the building was to have a larger clock tower & the building was meant to have a dome in the lobby. but with a tight budget of 10,000 pounds, the design had to be altered, even though it was well received by the state government and the people of Portland.
so with an extra month of altering of the original design, construction began in late August of 1868.

the Town hall finished construction in 1883, but James didn't live to see the building finished, he was shot dead while riding his horse in 1882. an area east of the CBD was named after him in 1883.

with the town hall opened in 1883, the same year as the new eastern suburb was founded, the first live show was played there just a month after the official opening ceremony.
