Welcome to The Zone, Stalker...

This map is based on the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
The actual area of The Zone is 1,004 square miles - This map is only a 42 square mile chunk of that.


My world includes Pripyat an abandoned city next to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Wiki.
I'm aiming to create a 1:1 scale model of the city (or as close as possible to scale)

I've been using a program called Unmined to view the map / get coordinates for teleport command. It's pretty useful.

Currently preparing the map for the 1.5 update
  • Underground  Surprises!
  • more of Pripyat City and the surrounding area has been completed.
  • Started the Great Swamp.
  • Added tunnel connecting swamp with Cordon.
  • Clear Sky base completed.
  • A few swamp settlements, church, etc. (7 settlements left to build)
  • Yantar is has fun things for you to find!
  • Dark Valley Completed...
Massive block replacement. (Separated Concrete wall block from stone floor block.
Road textures darkened and Marble blocks are now poured concrete.)

Texture pack is currently 64x64 but I'll make a new 16x16 for release. some animated textures already completed.

after the Great Swamp i'm moving to the Call Of Pripyat area to start on those swamps near the city :)

  • The texture pack IS NOT part of the world download. I separated it from the world so you don't have to download the world just to get the texture pack.

Still preparing for the 1.3 Update -Cleaning up the map and adding details where possible.

  • Changed the Entire map to the Swamp Biome because minecraft is way too colourful. 
  • The area around Chernobyl is Desert Biome (I wanted Red Forest but Pine trees don't change colour... (so i'll need to swap the leaves)
  • Planted so many Trees. Thanks to my fiancée for helping plant some forests (It was done by hand because the tools i'd usually use haven't been updated for 1.3 yet.. obviously)
  • Duga-3 south of Chernobyl (moved closer to the power plant so I wouldn't have to try and extend the map)

I'm having issues (chunks not aligning) with the world because my system doesn't have enough memory for World Painter to smooth out some of the imported terrain.

Not sure what time i'll be releasing the next build. within the next 12 hours I imagine...

that's all for now... I'm still working on things. There's still a lot of work to do with the roads and rails to make everything connected

Updated the page to reflect the new changes.

  • Project renamed to more accurately describe the content.
  • Progress meter altered from 75% to 25% to reflect the new landmass and work load needed to make it playable.

  • Generated a new world with WorldPainter 
- "The Zone of Exclusion" based on a map of the Ukraine
  • Moved the build to the new world
  • Altered height map of the Ukraine to include height maps of locations from S.T.A.L.K.E.R
The new world is approx 1.6GB - If you want it purely for Pripyat or Chernobyl you can load it up in MCedit and delete all the chunks you don't need.

This is a map of the new world (a few days old so recent constructions are missing)

The new world uses blocks that are not available in 1.2 so the world download WILL NOT be update until 1.3 is out.

More details completed but most of my time right now is going into learning java so i can write some server mods.

Infrastructure in planning (lamp posts and the such)

basements and underground tunnels in planning - Can't be started until the city is moved to a new non-flatmap world. I've got a 10x10 mile world based on height data of the ukraine but it's a few gigabytes in size. I've scaled it down to the smallest useable size and it's just under 1GB. MCedit is still far too unstable to move the city into a new world yet.

No download updateds - Next download will not be available for a while

Looking for coders to write some simple server mods specifically for this build.

Chernobyl Interior walls and floors almost completed (Loosely based off interior schematics I found) - Reactors 1, 2 ,3 & 4 in place along with the Turbine hall (Turbine Generators 1-8)  The main building is huge and you'll probably get lost.

Half slab outlines on the roads for some extra height detail.

Next Download will include Chernobyl and will be released on the anniversary of the disaster (April 26th)

Chernobyl is starting to look good now. I found an interior schematic for the main building so i'm building the most basic interior possible from that - I don't want to build the reactors or turbines or any details  - I want to leave space inside for people that want to use tekkit or something to build their own reactors inside the building.

The download does not work, it always says that the decompression failed or something like that. 
I would really like to play on this map with one of my friends, but at the current state, it seems impossible.

It's entirely possible. 8000 downloads. You're about the 6th person to tell me it doesn't work because of that problem... I can't figure out what's wrong because nobody gives me enough info. 


can any of your friends download it? what browser are you using? any information to help diagnose the problem would be fantastic.


Meanwhile, There is a  mirror available (DropBox) but it has limited bandwidth so i'll PM you the link.

Well, for starters, I use safari. I then switched over to Chrome and it still did not work.
My friend also tried to download it, and he cannot. He is also using Chrome.


Thanks for the mirror though, it's downloaded and we're really enjoying it. Thanks, and I hope you can fix the problem.

what do you mean? Yanov is Call of Pripyat and I've barely worked on those areas. 


If you can let me know what needs fixing i'll try and fix it before the next release.

2 quick things. For some reason the map cuts out some chunks and put others in and it really messes the map up. 2nd would you happen to have a basic coordinate system for the towns/major locations?

No coords for the towns because I wanted people to explore but since it's a huge map I'll put together a list of locations and coordinates.

Nothing to worry about! all of the new areas have edges like that from merging maps together. i'm cleaning up the edges as i go.


The map isn't finished yet.. Some area's are still in planning.

Yeah, The online map was generated a few days after the release so the map hints at things that aren't in the release.

I built it the day after I released the update.


Next release will be with the 1.6 update. I've got a lot of work ahead. with new carpet and stained clay blocks.

you even added in the russian woodpecker (DUGA-3) i am impressed with the scaling too. im working with a friend to spread guns around the map to pick up using the ferullo's gun mod and also making custom NPCs (i.e. strelok Lukash, ect.) to trade with and fight.

I thought I put it at the military base in cordon. spawn can be changed with a command so it's not important where i put it.


What changed... I a lot changed. I wish I had a comparison map to show you but the map rendering program i used is making all the quartz blocks invisible. quartz is my concrete texture so lots of buildings are invisible on the map.

You shouldn't spawn at Pripyat. If the road didn't go anywhere try turning around and going the other way. You spawn in the South West corner of the map.


The default spawn location coordinates should be -4354 3986 - Pripyat is at -2856 -2400. 


I'm trying to get an new map rendered soon. Next update i'll look into adding some road signs

i've been working on limansk and the red forest area but i don't think it's ready yet and I haven't finished updating all the armors to 64x64

No. not even close to finished.

I'm uploading it tonight so It can't be finished in time. Dead City, Limansk, Pripyat swamps are all very unfinished.


The delay is from the new quartz blocks. I retextured the stone to be darker so i could use it for roads and then use the quartz blocks for concrete walls. Some areas looked messed up. MCedit doesn't want to replace cobble slabs and with quartz slabs and stairs.

First do more normal trees and make the world not flat.
Secondly put anomaly: a fire-like frying, lava-like acid.
In the third makes all in order Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, Call of Pripyat and then carved location. See pictures of the locations

Ok, Trees are not important at the moment. I've got other things to do. The world is not flat. it's based on height data from stalker and google earth.


everybody asks for anomalies. if i build them into the map like you're asking for they would be static and crappy. they need to be modded in so they're dynamic and can move around.


makes all in order? You want the area's to be in order like the game? but then they don't fit into the actual area of chernobyl / pripyat.

Why do you want a 16x16? he also defective look, in terms of graphics. 64x64 lot better. even the weakest computers will pull 64x64

Most of the work is making everything 64x64. I'm working on the armors right now. Clear Sky is done. I need to make Duty, Freedom, Loner and SEVA

radar x10?  I think you're talking about the red forest area. It won't be finished before the update.

when i try to unarchive the map file it says this file is corrupted and i can only get to the texturepack and the map never unarchives!?!?

The problem isn't on my end, sorry. 
If it was don't you think every single comment would be telling me the archive is broke?


I know a few random people have had the same problem but there's nothing I can do because nobody knows what's causing the downloads to finish before the full archive has downloaded.


I'll make sure the next release has multiple mirrors so there are alternatives available.

This map Is fabulous! It is my all time favorite map. Lots of variation in locations, plus it looks beautiful!
