Read an in-depth bit about how the machine works: http://nopefully.sociotopia.com/posts/built-on-impulse-a-prototype/
I was inspired to make this machine after watching the input method of FVDisco's Drum Machine.
You add to the pattern by placing redstone torches on the wool blocks (marked by a sign), and you start the machine by putting a block in the piston clock (again marked by a sign). Currently, there are eight tracks and four beats for each track, which is looped twice into an 8x8 piston wave grid.
I'm planning on expanding this (hopefully moving to a 16x16 grid with 8, or even 16 beats!) in the future, so keep an eye out for that. Until then, feel free to download the map, tear it apart, and make your own cool patterns!
Check out Sharp Design, the texture pack used in the media: http://www.planetminecraft.com/texture_pack/x1gambler1xs-sharp-design-texture-pack-updated-for-mc-13/

When you scale it to 16x, make sure its aligned with a chunk for smoother animation.
Good job :)
And thank you very much for the chunk tip, I will definitely keep that in mind once I get to improving this machine.
