Simply put, I plan to do a really difficult task: to build a re-creation of the great walled city of Ba Sing Se, from the Avatar series, with my own twist. Along with a world save, I will also be putting together a total conversion resource pack such as to make the re-creation as accurate as possible.

I want to point out that this project is only based on Ba Sing Se from Aang's generation, but a large portion of it will be done with my imagination. Thus, in the end, there will be much less relevance to the original canon-material. I do want to re-create some key locations with accuracy, however. These include the Earth Kingdom Royal Palace, the Outer and Inner walls, Ba Sing Se University (renamed to Yong Gu Cheng University), the Zoo, the monorail system, etc.

Here are some details:

1. Textures:
Textures will come from a custom resource pack, specifically put together for Project Yong Gu Cheng. It will heavily feature the use of MCPatcher's/Optifine's Connected Textures Mod (CTM). Without this mod, the build will not appear as it is intended, even with the resource pack installed! The plan is to use biomes to allow for over 30 times as many textures as the game originally comes with!

The new plan is to use a custom Forge Mod, ProjectYongGuChengMod, to provide more blocks and items for the game. All default blocks and items will receive textures that resemble what they are originally (eg. black wool will still have some custom black wool texture, instead of being repurposed to be, say, a stack of cast iron).

2. City Size and Shape:
The final world size is still yet to be determined, but I am aiming for roughly a circular shape (with obvious distortions; no city will be a perfect circle). I can give a very rough estimate (and I mean an over-ambiguously rough estimate) that the radius of the circle will be from 10km to 100km (10,000 blocks to 100,000 blocks). That means the size of the city could be as much as 31,400,000,000 blocks, but let's be realistic here...

Exactly, let us be realistic here. My computer doesn't have enough ram to support a map that size, at least when editing within WorldPainter. The new size of the map will be 12800 by 12800 blocks. That's around 12km by 12km for the actual city. By no means is this a 1:1 scale, but 31 million blocks of repeated slum housing is pretty boring. Thus I will condense the less important aspects of the city, but buildings and landmarks will still be more or less 1:1 scale.

This is more or a checklist of what needs to be done. As I work my way through the checklist, I will update it accordingly with subtasks and elaborate in finer detail. For now, here's a look at things to come.

☐ Draw up a detailed plan and layout of the city
☐ Create the terrain using WorldPainter
☐ Put together the resource pack (I will add to the pack as the project progresses)
☐ Build Earth Kingdom Royal Palace at x,y = 0,0
☐ Build Upper Ring
☐ Build Upper Inner Wall
☐ Build Middle Ring
☐ Build Middle Inner Wall
☐ Build Lower Ring
☐ Build Lower Inner Wall
☐ Build Agrarian Zone
☐ Build Outer Wall

You might be wondering, where did the name "Yong Gu Cheng" come from? The answer is quite simple, but interesting. In a few episodes, the Chinese characters 永固城 were used on signs indicating certain locations in the city. For example, 永固城大学 was seen at Ba Sing Se University. The characters 永固城, read in Manderin Chinese, is pronounced "Yong Gu Cheng," meaning "Everlasting City."I don't know where they got "Ba Sing Se" from. Maybe it was their creativity, which I am absolutely fine with--but I wanted my re-creation to have a stronger feel to it, and naming it as it should be pronounced gives it that feeling. Thus, I chose to name the project, and the great walled city, Yong Gu Cheng.

Project Yong Gu Cheng is technically a version 2 of the project. I say this because a few years ago I made an attempt only to lose focus to other duties in life. Back then, I did not have the knowledge, nor the skill, nor the experience to proceed with such a daunting task. Now I plan to start again, hoping to get further than just some experimental builds.

Q: Is this project on a server?
A: No. Not yet. But if enough people show interest in working on the build, I might put it up one day. After enough of the resource pack is done.

Q: Screenshots? Where's the progress?
A: So far, I've only been working on the world in WorldPainter. I will update with screenshots when I finish a portion of it and import into minecraft.

More info to come. The bbcode formating likes to play with me for some reason. Ignore any formating errors.

Yes! In fact, I plan to release regular developmental snapshots of the build too as I progress on the project.
