The upcoming update will be in adventure (with occasional survival) mode.
You can change this locally.
First, open the pause menu.
Then, select: "Open to LAN".
Next, press on "Allow cheats:" and put it to on.
Type into your chat bar: /gamemode adventure.
Then, restart the world.
I will add a little something in that direction in the upcoming 2.0 version.
