I have been working on a music machine that would only use redstone circuitry and noteblocks, and would not require for the listener to move around. There are several really nasty problems on the way, some of which do have ways to work around, but unfortunately they also cause too much redstone activity.

Having a stable and accurate main clock was one, but with the new repeater-block based clocks and the auto-start circuit I engineered, that problem is now tackled. Here is a link to the Minecraft forums thread about the circuit, it has links to more screenshots and technical description about how it works: www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1020&t=259809

The remaining obstacles are related to the random occasional timing jitter of redstone torches, and making 1 torch delay long pulses to get through the one last torch before hitting the note block. I may have to change the design so that it does not need to have so short pulses, but that will then double the amount of note blocks required.

I have high hopes that a source code fix for the torch timing jitter (already shown in GetSatisfaction site) will end up in the client. That would then leave only the short pulse propagation problem to be solved.

Even though only a picture of the main clock prototype is uploaded, there is already plenty of other prototype circuitry. Unfortunately, those other parts have not yet been converted to use the new repeater blocks, so it would be pointless to upload obsolete screenshots. Coming Soon(tm)... ;)

Improved the repeater clock restart circuit : by bugi74 04/04/2011 4:51:09 pmApr 4th, 2011

The restart circuit had some minor problems. I worked on those pesky details a bit, and now it should be much more robust. The screenshot of the updated situation is based on the older version and does not have some of the texts.

Oopsie, forgot to link the thread in the Minecraft forums. There are more screenshots and technical explanation. Here: www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1020&t=259809

And yes, if you're this deep into redstone stuff, I expect you to be able to build this yourself. Note, this particular circuit is only for a 5-clock; if one needs other clocks, and/or other than 5 torch delay on-time per cycle, and/or to put it in different layout, the circuit needs modifications. I'm not going to do them for you all; so better learn...

A world save would certainly be nice to provide, but unfortunately I made this prototype in my only redstone test world, which happens to contain some "trade secrets" I'll keep for a while more. With the limited time I have, I thought it better to share it at least in some way, rather than just keep it totally to myself.

An updated version of the circuit coming up, too...

This is pretty cool, I could definitely see how useful something like this could be. I've made large redstone creations for noteblocks that require perfect timing, and once you start adding more than just the clock that runs the noteblocks the circuits start acting weird. I think as you make this larger you are gonna run into problems, but then I'm not 100% sure how this works when looking at your diagram.
