Ladies and gentlemen, we on Beyond The Horizon hereby present you our second project-teaser, the city of Salnoon.


Salnoon is a city, lorewise connected to Darnoon which acted as our first project-teaser, built to display what quality and dedication we put into our work towards our final goal. Everyone can come on and visit the city to take a look, but mind that it was built with the Conquest texturepack by monsterfisher and that's what we recomend every visitor to use.

It once seemed that the varied tribes that named themselves Noonic could never quite get along for more than a short while, and the break up of their alliance cemented as much. After the Lai, the El, the Dar, and so many other Noonic tribes returned to their corners of the continent, so too did the Sal venture back to their own retreat at Meri Bay. These fertile reaches had been well tended by those members that stayed behind to care for their village, hence the Sal had immediate time to spare for pursuits that would generally be considered dangerous distractions, petty things to be ignored: in a world that was still in so many ways brutal, the Sal discovered art.


This combination of a defensible location, ample food sources to spare, a port, and a collective curiosity, led to the town of Salnoon being considered a haven from whatever strife affected other parts of the known world, the peaceful city of the natives in which all were welcome, no matter their background or status - beyond its own survival, Salnoon truly cared only about artistic pursuits, leading to a majority of the works of music, sculpture, paint, that are famous in the world, to have been at the very least imagined within Salnoon.


Not all saw this as desirable. With their tall buildings, fancy clothes, and carefree air, some of the few remaining Noonic tribes that had not yet assimilated into the more static societies saw the Sal as traitors to their traditional ways, filth and vermin by bending to the ways of the non-native cities. They saw Salnoon as unsaveable, impossible to redeem, and launched an attack that caught the inhabitants of Salnoon off-guard.


The massacre that followed led to a lingering sentiment of tribal Noons as barbaric, dishonourable, cowardly rats to be brought into modern ways or else exterminated, but to Salnoon, the aftermath was a more desperate situation that needed urgent attention; the tribal attackers spared most women, children, and the elderly, but the entire capable male population, including the King and his sons, was ruthlessly slaughtered. What followed was out of necessity, but eventually embraced regardless as yet another unique aspect of Salnoon's history; it may never have been done before, but with no other choice, Salnoon's women were left to pick up the pieces of their city, to take on every role within, from farmers to chefs, fishers, guards, dockworkers, builders and crafters, and even the role of monarch for the first time. This time, where the only men within the city were either elderly or infirm, became a defining point in the history of not only the Noonic people, but of Salnoon itself - women could never again be relegated to the background as in so many other societies in the world, not knowing that their custodianship of the city was a success. In those years, came the suppression of those same tribes who had so brutally massacred their city's people, and the reappearance of the northern Dar tribe after several centuries, both events that put Salnoon, then entirely a city of women, in the spotlight again.


Those male children reached adulthood, and the roles in Salnoon changed once again, but stabilized. The time of it being a city of women is long gone, but given that the roles are equal, it is still the impression many outsiders have: of an entire city where female rules male. In truth, though the crown is handed down only through the female line, as a relic of those defining years, Salnoon is in reality perhaps the only place in the world where both sexes can entirely know their worth to be based on ability - still the artistic hub of the world, where anyone can make a name for themselves, where anyone is welcome to join the artistic greats in eternal praise.
