The Sarmatians were semi-nomadic tribes that roamed the plains of modern-day Ukraine and Moldovia. Many of them served as mercenaries for the Greek city-states and later the Romans. Fighting as skilled archers on foot and on horseback, the Sarmatians fought as auxiliaries on numerous Roman frontiers. They were later destroyed by other migrating, nomadic tribes such as the Roxolani, Alans, Scythians, and Huns. <br><br>Our city is located near ancient Olbia.
