X699 Processor

The screen's X/Y decoder can draw upto 150-pixels per minute.

Running vertically along the RAM is register page decode and control circuitry.

Like in the J-series, CPU registers are based on Nor-latch technology ( however my new design is 10X denser. )

Connected here is a Robot-to-Redstone interface; the 'Robot' is a special block part of the MC-MOD 'Computer Craft', robotic support can drastically speedsup the construction and evaluation of Redstone processors; Lets get a Robot right now !..

The X699 was built on My Computer-Craft server, behind my rebotic companys head-quarters.

[ were Inside Head-quarters now ] and i've requisitioned robot-3; it will automatically undock from the system, connect to the robot-progrmming terminal and await instructions.

I've just programmed my new Redstone computers location as this robots target; it's disscpnected from the programming terminal and is preparing to exit the building, via special robot corridors.

The robots interact with doors and access ways by communicating with underground circuitry using Redstone signals.

The robots are programmed to seek there target even from a great distance, they can also avoid complex objects in there path.

The Robot can use this interface to directly control the X699's main memory ( like a co-processor )... This is very usefull to be able to-do During the processors construction : )

The adder were using is the high-density insta-carry 'beast' designed by properinglish.

Hey guys, This is a Redstone computer I'm building.

The computer is an 8-bit 8-register machine.
It has also has 64-bits of Video Memory driving an 8 X 8 piston display.

I have a good understanding of redstone, yet I understood barely anything of this. So it's a computer that stores memory, within my computer, and it has robots. Is this tekkit? Ftb? Or did redstone finally advance to the point to create mobile robot droids?

Yeah the computer has lots of memory and is built using conventional vanilla-Redstone.

The robots are for designing and engineering, they help me to build and test the device.

The droids themselves come from the mod ComputerCraft.

Information processing has a lower bound on complexity beyond which any idea can be represented and anythings posible.

ok i have returned with considerably more knowledge on CPUs then i used to have and i am going to finish one of the redpower ones i started. I have worked with some 8 bit CPUs on breadboards irl now and i believe i can create the likes of one in game. hopefully if all goes to plan it will be able to do some simple programs and such

How are the robots programmed to avoid obstacles? Is it a function of the mod, or something more complex?

Does the screen use something similar to my framebuffer idea? It's awesomely compact if so.

Thanks Casey : ) The robots accept behavioural instructions in the programming language Lua, initially; the robots possess only basic functionality in programs such as 'turn left' or 'move forward'... I rewrote these basic maneuveral programs to include internal state; this allows the robots to keep a track of there own location and orientation. The next step was to write a navigation program; essentially a system which compares a robots internally calculated location to a target and then takes basic actions ( such as turn / move ) to reach said target. Obstacle avoidance was trivial to add once this framework was in-place; if a robot cannot decrease the distance from its target then it will push that target onto a stack and attempt to reach a new target which allows it to reach the previous target ( this process continues recursively ) Behaviourally, this all means the robot will move Around solid blocks and mobs, it can even navigate complex unfamiliar cave networks.

The screen has a write-only pixel bit-plane buffer with 6-bits of 1-bit address space.
It is therefor much less powerful then your Red-appes frame-buffer by specifications.
It essentially only allows you to set / clear pixels. ( I spent a quite a few hours compressing the design; just to find out that properenglish has released a design which is so amazing similar that it made the work all but redundant ! - althogh I think mines a teeny tiny bit smaller )

Wow, awesome way of navigating the robot! I gotta make something like that with an in-robot neural network, and see if that's what it eventually develops to do. Thanks!, you gave me an idea that could make neural nets practical in minecraft.
It's still an awesome screen, and everything is insanely aesthetic as usual.

I feel redundant asking this, but what exactly can this be used for? I understand 8-bits and 64-bits pretty well, but I doubt you could play Castlevania on one of these.

Interesting, but what do you mean by soon? Is there a feature necessary but not yet implemented? Are people still figuring out how to do this stuff? Anyway, I always wondered just what you could accomplish with one of these, so I must ask: Will we ever have Minecraft computers capable of running, say, Doom?

i have a relatively compact design with pistons and it could easily be turned serial the only issue is once you add read/write protect its not so small for one byte anymore :/ its still useful though. if you want the design just pm me

Each computers machine and instruction architecture is planned to the letter.

Each component is also planned; for example before designing the RAM ( first image ) I knew I wanted an 8-bit vertical-nor-latch d-flip-flop array spaced long-ways between two horizontal busses ( read / write ) and two vertical busses ( decode / control ) ... So I knew pretty much exactly what it was going to look like before I even loged-into Minecraft.

Before I think about components or architectures; I roughly draft the machine as a whole; for example here I wanted a small screened work station with a compact and stackable computer running right behind it, i may give this device a case at some point too : ) Thanks for a good question.
