Stardate 2268, Captain Tracey of the Uss Exeter led a landing party to the surface of the planet omega IV, the crew inadvertently contracted the omega IV virus, and passed it along to the rest of their crewmates. Tracey remained on the surface while his crew returned to the ship and died painfully in orbit. He realised that the atmosphere provided him with immunity to the virus. violating the prime directive, he struck a bargain with members of the planet's kohm faction, and participated in their ongoing war against the yangs.
