BACKSTORY

On May 6th, 1968, Stephan Malinov was born in a small town in Ukraine. The only child of two peasants, he spent the first years of his life living amongst the poorest of the poor. When Stephan was eight, his mother died in a tragic house fire. Stephan's father became an abusive alcoholic and took his anger out on his son. Stephan spent his teenage years begging on the streets. Stephan was twenty on the fateful day that he found a newspaper littered on the grounds in the woods outside of the town. The newspaper featured a story about Steve Sanctumo better known as "Mojang"o who had been saving lives all around America. Stephan realized that he could make something of himself. Stephan knew he wanted to be a superhero like Mojang.

Stephan spent the next two years of his life searching for opportunity. He was well aware of how much we was capable of. Yet whenever Stephan found a chance to show his heroic nature, he was given no recognition or gratitude.

Now 22, Stephan looked back at his life and decided he was a failure. Stephan dug out the article about Mojang and tore it in spite. Stephan realized that he needed resources. More specifically, he decided he needed education, support, and pizzaz. And most important of allo ¦ he needed money.

Stephan looked for a job everywhere he could, but could never find one. In the poor town, the best jobs were all taken. But maybe, Stephan realized, the best job was not his best option. He needed something that could take him far from the poor town. It was more important to find a job that would please him than to find one that would immediately launch him into riches.

And then it hit him. There was a job that would take him around the country. A job where he could make people happy. A job that would give Stephan the attention he deserved. There was just one thing standing in his wayo ¦ his father.

On a frigid night in 1980, Stephan returned to his home. His father was sleeping on the floor, surrounded by empty bottles. In a fit of rage, Stephan smothered his father with a pillow. Stephan knew this was not the right thing to do, but if it was the only thing stopping him from saving millions then he was willing to do it. Anyways, Stephan's father had made him miserable. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.

The father's death was not a surprise from the community. They assumed he'd overdosed and not further investigation was done. Stephan volunteered to take his job. In January of 1981, Stephan began working for a circus. He was a clown and entertained thousands of children. To make his name more accessible, Stephan went by the nickname of William, the name of the author who wrote the initial article about Mojang. But he wanted something more, so Stephan began working on the corporate side of clowning.

Fast forward a year and Stephan is high up on the clown corporate ladder. Stephan is determined, impressive, and has a nice rags to riches story. This was the theme of the president of Clown Continental's speech the day he retired and handed his empire to Stephan. Stephan became power-crazy. Everyone was below him and he could do whatever he wanted. Stephan realized he already had gathered all of his resources. He'd been educated in all that was important: deception, corporation, and greed. He knew to never allow anyone to stay in his way. He was supported and admired by thousands. He had aquired pizzaz from years of clowning. And finallyo ¦ he was rich.

The young billionaire stayed in control for three years, then resigned without warning and took a jet to America. Stephan had gotten caught up in the clowning business and forgotten about his goal of being a superhero.

Stephan arrived in New York City on June 6th, 1984. He bought a fancy room in an apartment building and waited for his chance to save the day. He was ready for a massive crime, but he found none. Once, he had a chance to stop a bank robbery. When he arrived, he found that Mojang was already there. Mojang mocked Stephan for his suit and limousine, saying that real superheroes where costumes. Stephan replied, "Real superheroes come from nothing."

Stephan continued waiting for his opportunity for two months. Desperate, he payed off a few cons to cause mayhem. Waiting on the roof above the street where they were told to arrive, Stephan saw the cons take an old lady hostage and begin to rob an armored car. Stephan prepared to dive down and save the day. As he stood and walked to the middle of the roof so he could get a good view, Mojang flew to the roof. Mojang was holding the robbers in one arm. Stephan tried to fight Mojang, but it was no use. Minutes later, Stephan and his goons were being locked in a police car and taken to prison.

In 1992, Stephan was sentenced to life in prison. Mojang had testified to the court about how evil Stephan was. The jury had all sided with Mojang.

After nine years in prison, Stephan "WIlliam" Malinov was reported dead. His death was barely mentioned in the news. Yet somehow, Mojang received a letter from Stephan in 2002. Stephan told him that he planned to get revenge. Mojang shook it off, assuming it was some lame prank.

In 2004, the screens in Times Square went black. A second later, a pale man with sharp, dead-ish features appeared on the screen. He wore a suit and spoke slowly, with a heavy accent. He introduced himself as Dollar Bill and dared Mojang, his nemesis, to approach the screens. Mojang bravely flew to the hacked screen. Dollar Bill revealed that he was not really dead, and had escaped to a lair hidden in the ocean. When Mojang arrogantly demanded that Dollar Bill stop this masquerade, there was a loud crash. Three rockets that had been hidden in the nearby billboards had shot at Mojang and he had plunged to the ground. As Dollar Bill laughed a dark, maniacal laugh, Mojang came to. Mojang was alive, but could no longer fly. Dollar Bill left the panicking masses with a maliious glare.Soon, pictures of the Dollar Bill 2.0 were circulated worldwide. The U.N. listed him as the number one threat to the world in 2006. He was classified as twisted, greedy, ambitious, self-obsessedo ¦ and a genius. The man with a heart as cold as his icy eyes and an impenetrable lair is most remembered for his chilling monologue delivered after he attacked Mojang.

"If you understand only one thing from the events today let it be that I have the power. I, Dollar Bill, am the one in the elaborate, secure lair. I have the power, the money, the glory. I could have been your greatest hero, yet you rallied behind a pathetic, smug man purely because of his powers. Now I shall get my revenge. Live in fear.The next move is yours, Mojang, for now I am the victor."
