The Lupine (Superhero Contest)

  One night, Joel was dragged into his parents fighting, again. Only this time, it was worse. "Joel!" His father yelled. "Who's been the better parent all of these years? This will settle this once and for all!" Joel did not answer. He didn't need to. Both of his parents were equally brutal and, in his mind, heartless. "Neither." Joel finally said. With tears in his eyes, he ran. Ran out of the room. Ran out of the house. He just ran. He ran until he finally reached a forest of trees, miles away from his used-to-be-home. Not knowing what to do, he walked into the woods and looked around. It was nothing but trees, bushes, and wolves. Wolves? Joel jumped and staggered back. He had never thought he would see a wolf up close before. The animal looked sickly, as it was stumbling and coughing. It saw Joel out of the corner of it's eye and growled. Joel slowly walked backwards, but he wasn't slow enough. The wolf charged at him and leaped toward his head. Joel yelped and rolled to the left, avoiding the wolf's attack. The wolf barked and, with inhuman speed, ran at Joel and bit his arm. Joel screamed in pain. Only, it wasn't pain. Joel did not hurt at all. his arm began to feel as if bugs were crawling under his skin. He glared at the wolf and, with hope, asked it, "What did you do?" The wolf seemed to smile and said, "You're one of us now Joel." Joel jumped backward at the shock that the wolf could speak. He cared less that it knew his name. "What do you mean?" asked Joel. "You'll see." The wolf replied, "Now howl." "Howl?" Joel asked. The wolf said nothing more. Joel could think of nothing else to do, so he looked at the moon, and howled. It was an extremely wolf-like howl. Joel was amazed at what the wolf had done. Joel turned to thank the wolf, but it was gone, no where to be seen. The only thing he found, was an outfit. It had a mask, and a wolf pelt suit. Joel put the suit on, and then the mask. Then, he knew what he was. He was The Lupine. A superhuman with wolf abilities of agility, hearing, and fighting. Joel thanked the wolf silently to himself, and ran further down into the woods, ready to help humans from any danger there is to come.
