If you like the default look of minecraft except for a couple things like the grass color or glass that isn't clear,
Then this might be the texture pack for you!

First off the changes to the menu and GUI.

-I changed the default 'dirt' background in the main menu and changed it to smooth stone.

-Secondly the panorama in the title screen has been changed to a smooth stone back ground featuring ore drops like emerald, diamond, coal etc. (see first screenshot for example)

-The GUI is now redone by using the default GUI as reference point instead of OCD Discos.
-remade the buttons to smooth stone buttons
-wooden hot bar indicator and with custom colors in the hot bar

These are the changes made to the terrain:

-Water has been re-textured and recolored to give a more tropical look
-Lava has also been re-textured.
-Sand has been been re-textured so it has waves in it and has also been recolored to give a more tropical feel.
-Sandstone has been slightly recolored to match the sand.
-Glass has now smooth lines and is clear, so no more annoying lines of pixels in the middle. (same for glass panes)
-Cobblestone and Glowstone have been slightly re-texured to give it more dept and an better look overall.
-Wooden planks and related items have been smoothed out, no more random dots in the planks.
-Sticky pistons have a slimeball instead of the green splash.
-Redstone Wire is a smooth line.
-Workbench and Dispences are smoothed out.
-Pumpkins are now the same on all sides, Jack-o-lantern now has a creeper face!
-Emerald Ore block looks like any other ore but green.
-Chests have been completely overhauled, they are now much smoother and brighter.
-Custom biome sky colors! for example: desert has a brownish tint which looks like a distant sandstorm.*see desert screen shot
-Grass and leaves are bright green, (like it was in 1.7.3) in all biomes exept swamp.
-Ice is now clear, so no lines of 3 pixels in the middle.
-Critical hit and smoke particles have been edited.
-i also replaced one of the paintings with a picture of bob marley :)

I'm still learning about making textures, so feedback is welcome! :)

-Note-
MC patcher or Optifine is not required, but when it is installed, particles are in 32x32

Clear glass

First you need to get the texture files (like the terrain.png and item and GUI folders) out of the minecraft.jar
Then you look at another texture pack to see how to set up your folders/directory's and see where all files go.

Once you have all files in the right folders you can start edit them.
I use a program called Paint.net, which is kinda a mix between paint and photoshop.
then u just replace the blocks with what ever you want and it will show up in game like that.

The texture files that are missing in your pack will show up as the default textures in game.

for the higher res packs, i believe you can just re-size the .png's to 200%
so the terrain.png will be 512 instead of 256 pixels, you just need to make sure the blocks you edit are on the same spot as they are in the default pack so the game knows what texture to give to what block.

though i never made a high res pack so dont take my word for it, i could be wrong.
im sure there are some good tutorials on youtube that explain it better then me, so if u really wanna get into making textures u might wanna look some up.

Dont confuse that mate, NEVER use the Paint, paint is the worst program ever, Photoshop is BEST program, you can do everything, in Paint, you can ONLY paint. Never say that those too programs are mix, nor close, nor same. In Photo shop, you can add effects, add and MAKE effects, you can shade, do concept A. , make montages, you can make them realystic if you are good at it(like me), and bunch of other things !!! So please, dont EVER say that they are same or mix or something like that, its a shame.

I understand where you are coming from with liking photoshop, but paint.net is pretty good for someone looking for easy editing. Paint.net is essentially paint with improved selecting and shading, ect.

Yes, i know, and even it is free. But you, for example, have to draw a shade, and in photoshop you just click a button, and shade it like you want(color,brightness,size...). Paint is good, but PS is best !
