I have no plans to update this pack. There are a few community members who are working on it, though I won't make any promises on it's completion. Thank you, fans, for your support! I'm sorry to let it go, but I don't have the time for it anymore.
The Terms of Use still apply. You may not steal or use any of these textures in your own pack.

Since this pack has changed drastically since it's original version I have made this new page for it. This will hopefully get it some more attention. So please Diamond this, even if you have given one to the old version. Thanks!

This pack requires MCPATCHER to run properly. It is also suggested you use at least the following settings: HD Textures, HD Font, Connected Textures, Random Mobs, Custom Colors, Better Skies.

About:
Derivation is a 32x32 texture pack that draws inspiration from old and new RPGs. It is created with 100% Pixel Art in order to fit with the Minecraft theme.

Terms of Use:
DO NOT re-upload this pack and claim it as your own. You WILL be caught, as many others have before.
DO NOT steal any textures and put them into a remix pack or slightly edit them. No exceptions.

DO create a review and/or video of this pack. So long as you link back to this page or the one on Minecraftforum.net.
DO use the texture pack when creating an adventure map or project and suggest that people use it. So long as you link back to this page or the one on Minecraftforum.net.

You should redo your screenshots while using Optifine's mipmapping. Currently, they look grainy.

How do to go about color palettes? Do you make one palette for an entire pack, or does each material get its own palette?
Edit Reply Delete

  • June 2, 2013, 4:51 pm
I make each item separately, but try to color pick here and there to keep some continuity. And of course each material shares the same palette. For instance, the workbench's wood color is the same as note-block's wood color. It's best to look at all the textures at once (the way we used to make packs in a terrain.png) and make sure they all match and have the same feel.
Edit Reply Delete
That's what I wanted back... the old terrain.png was way better. I don't know why people like this new version :/

Something weird with glowstone.
Its a different texture from when you hold it to when you place it.

That's thanks to MCPatcher. Everyone always asked me to make glowstone into lanterns, but I like it to look like glowstone in the Nether. So now if you go to the nether it will look normal, but placing it anywhere else will make it a lantern.
It doesn't change the graphic when you're holding it, unfortunately.

love your Texture Pack, only found one problem with your glass... it is very hard to see through and the decoration on it looks like there is a rusty wire all around it. Maybe if you just put a gem looking design in the middle of the glass block and pane it would look better.. other wise it is very hard to find a use for it...

Very happy i found your texture pack it is awesome continue on improving it, i love it...

The new bricks have more detail than the old ones, and they both have the same amount and variation of colors. The new ones are just closer to stone color rather than greenish.
I'd suggest using MCPatcher with connected textures enabled. This will add a lot of variety to the bricks which I believe helps make them better than the old bricks.
I have no plans to change the bricks anytime soon, and certainly not back to the very old texture. Sorry!

I love the theme and colours: it's almost... Retro? It feels light/dark at the same time (how does that work?!). Just two things I don't love: the birch bark (I think it looks like mushroom stems) and the oak bark (I think it looks kind of like dirt) other than that it's awesome!

Great that you updated it. But I'm sorry to say I don't really like some changes you did: Especially the stone bricks, glass and the nether brick color which is brown now... Also the new quartz pillars would be so much better if the stripes were vertical just like in default. Maybe the older version of RS lamp was better too... But still it's a great TP.
