maybe a bolt action sniper, the 'power up' of the bow would act as the re-chamber of the bullet? the arrows could then be a magazine, with the bullets in

Well in DayZ it's a can and it real life a can would be MUCH better for one reason it would get the zombies attention and make then run towards it but that's what I did with my Texturepack as well as DayZ did.

You should do randomized zombie skins. (like how most textures have randomized enemies), <Kinda awkward how all zombies are the same>
For armour,
Leather = Dirty torn clothes
Chainmail = Blood stained clothes <not torn, unless you want that>
Iron = Riot police type thing e,e can't remember what they're called.

As for food...I think it's fine as is but if you want to switch it, apples should have some bruises. other than that I do not know lol.
Shears should just be regular scissors.
