Paper Cut-Out  texture pack by SuperAlgae
for Minecraft 1.5.2 (plus 13w19a)

yoUzM.png OyLSh9n.pngFFNHA5I.png
Now Available,
in Paper Cut-Out style...
 - Werewolf Engineer/Miner

 - Paper Bard

Instructions for old Minecraft versions...
* To use this pack with Minecraft 1.3 or earlier, delete the files "mob/zombie.png", "mob/pigzombie.png", "mob/wolf_tame.png", "armor/cloth_1.png", and "armor/cloth_2.png" from the texture pack zip file. You can replace them with copies from Paper Cut-Out 1.24 or earlier if you want.

** To use this pack with Minecraft 1.2.5 or earlier, delete the file "gui/allitems.png" from the texture pack zip file and optionally rename "gui/allitems-1.2.5.png" to "gui/allitems.png".

Many people have made paper cut-outs that look like objects from Minecraft, but now you can reverse that and make Minecraft look like paper cut-outs! This pack uses shading to make the textures look like cut, folded, and overlapping paper. In addition to these 3D effects, the textures also have just a little papery roughness, but not so much as to be "noisy".

Most textures have been customized, and the remaining textures come from either the Minecraft defaults or from my other texture pack, BitKnit. I used BitKnit to fill in unfinished textures since it blends with the style of this pack better than the default textures. If a texture appears to be customized but still looks a little out of place, it probably came from BitKnit. I am replacing these with proper "paper" textures over time. The BitKnit texture pack can be downloaded from: www.planetminecraft.com/texture_pack/bitknit

..  CUSTOMIZER!  ..

NOTE:  minecraftcustomizer.net does not currently support Minecraft 1.5, but I have updated the texture pack itself to include 1.5-compatible alternate textures. Inside the the zip file are some folders whose names start with "alt-". These can be found under the "textures/blocks" and "textures/items" folders. They contain alternate textures that you can use to replace Paper Cut-Out's default textures. For example, the folder "textures/blocks/alt-ores-square" contains the square style ores that were the default in earlier versions of Paper Cut-Out.

As I have mentioned before, the voting for icons/ores just helps me to decide what to make default and where to focus my effort. You have always been able to get the alternate textures by following the instructions for deleting/renaming files in the zip package. However, several people have asked for a way to more easily mix and match textures. To help with that, I have posted the Paper Cut-Out pack on minecraftcustomizer.net.

.. VOTE FOR TERRAIN ..

I'm trying out some new terrain textures. My first attempt was Terrain2 below. It felt a little off, so I refined it to get Terrain3, which is a balance between Terrain2 and the original Terrain1. Terrain3 keeps the grass from Terrain1 and uses a reduced-contrast version of the stone from Terrain2. In the most recent update I also changed the dirt for Terrain3 to a subtle weave pattern that's a little different from my previous update. Here's what all three look like...

Terrain 1 (click for full image)

Terrain 2 (click for full image)

Terrain 3 (click for full image)
NUhKo2b.jpg

I'm holding a vote to help decide which should be the default. Share your preference in the comments.

Since Terrain3 is currently the default, to use Terrain1, open the texture pack zip file, delete "terrain.png" and rename "terrain-smooth.png" to "terrain.png". To use Terrain2, open the texture pack zip file, delete "terrain.png" and rename "terrain-rough.png" to "terrain.png".

Note that the customizer still has just the Terrain1 textures for now.

Voting Results:  .. Terrain1: 4 votes ..  .. Terrain2: 2 votes ..  .. Terrain3: 8 votes ..

PREVIOUS VOTES ...

.. NEW ICONS ..

6hLFg.jpg

After having a public vote, I made the 'paper-style icons' the default for this pack, but you can still get the 'traditional icons' by following these instructions...

To use the traditional icons open the texture pack zip file, delete "gui/items.png" and rename "gui/items-traditional.png" to "gui/items.png". Or if you want to mix-and-match, be sure to check out the customizer.

Icon Voting Results:  .. Traditional: 32 votes ..  .. PaperStyle: 49 votes ..

.. NEW ORES ..

After having a public vote, I made the 'new ores' the default for this pack, but you can still get the 'square ores' by following these instructions...

To use the original "square" ore textures, open the texture pack zip file, delete "terrain.png" and rename "terrain-square-ores.png" to "terrain.png". Or if you want to mix-and-match, be sure to check out the customizer.

You can see a comparison between the two kinds of ores in the screenshot gallery.

Ore Voting Results:  .. SquareOres: 29 votes ..  .. NewOres: 87 votes ..

Choice!, ... also pigs in blankets : 05/18/2013 7:54:37 am5/18/13

Version 1.51
- Customize pigs (previously just copied from BitKnit). And someone was nice enough to give them blankets! How kind.
- Choice is back! Although minecraftcustomizer.net has not been updated to support Minecraft 1.5, I have added 1.5-compatible alternate textures into the texture pack itself. These can be found in folders starting with "alt-". Here's the list.
  - textures/items/alt-traditional: Icons with a more traditional style (as opposed to the paper style).
  - textures/blocks/alt-earth-flat: Stone/dirt textures that are solid colors except for just a little papery roughness.
  - textures/blocks/alt-earth-rough: Stone/dirt/grass textures that have stronger patterns to them.
  - textures/blocks/alt-ores-square: The square style ores that were the default in early versions of the pack.
  - textures/blocks/alt-refined-blocks-noframe: Metal and gemstone blocks that have no frames around them.
  - textures/blocks/alt-refined-metal-nobrick: Metal blocks that have patterns more like the default Minecraft textures rather than looking like bricks.
  - textures/blocks/alt-wool-diamond: Wool blocks where every color has the "diamond" pattern.
  - textures/blocks/alt-wool-stripe: Wool blocks where every color has the "stripe" pattern.
  - textures/blocks/alt-wool-weave: Wool blocks where every color has the "weave" pattern.

Chain Armor, Connected Textures, Snapshot 13w18c : 05/03/2013 6:15:24 pm5/03/13

Version 1.50
- Support the latest snapshots. The hearts and jump-bar for horses now render correctly.
- Customize chain armor (previously just copied from BitKnit). This includes both the on-person armor and the icons.
- Add more shading to iron, diamond, and gold armor.
- Update connected textures to work with the latest versions of both MCPatcher and Optifine.

Diamond Armor, Detector Rail, Book Icons, ... : 04/14/2013 2:36:45 pm4/14/13

Version 1.49
- Change diamond armor (mainly the chestplate).
- Make paper-style icons for the diamond armor and update some others.
- Update detector rail.
- Give books more of a paper style. I tried making the perspective more of a straight-on view to be more like the other paper-style icons, but it looks better to have it at an angle, so I ended up sticking pretty close to the default icons.
- Customize sugar icon.

Armor Icons, Paintings, Flint and Steel : 04/03/2013 1:58:12 pm4/03/13

Version 1.48
- Update the iron and gold armor icons to look like the on-person armor and follow the paper cut-out style.
- Make the flint and steel look like a lighter rather than actual flint and steel, which did not make for a very recognizable icon.
- Paintings...
  - Make the first two paintings look like stamps.
  - Customize the flaming skull painting to use paper cut-out style.
  - Update several other paintings to fit better with the paper cut-out style.

Mojang Splash Screen, Icons for Bed, Hopper, Cauldron, ... : 03/26/2013 4:42:04 pm3/26/13

Version 1.47
- Customize icons for...
- - Bed, hopper, cauldron and brewing stand.
- - Sulphur and gunpowder.
- - Compass (close to default but more shaded).
- Customize Mojang splash screen.
- Small change to title screen background.
- Fix icons for potato. The baked and plain potatoes were swapped.
- Small adjustments to arrows.

Hopper, Witch, Apples, Snowball, Redstone Icon, ... : 03/17/2013 8:31:32 am3/17/13

Version 1.46
- Customize hopper.
- Customize witch.
- Make golden rail brighter.
- Small changes to font.
- Paper-style icons:
  - Customize apples (previously done in "traditional" style).
  - Customize redstone.
  - Customize snowball.
  - Customize spider eye.
  - Small changes to arrow.

Steve, Zombie Villager, Bows, Arrrows, Fishing Rods, ... : 03/10/2013 12:33:33 pm3/10/13

Version 1.45
- Customize Steve skin (previously just copied from BitKnit).
- Customize zombie villager.
- Paperize bows, arrows, sticks and fishing rods.
- Paperize enchanting table book.
- Adjust custom font to work correctly with Minecraft 1.5.
- Customize more particles (damage, arrow trail, etc).

Villagers, Food Bar, Portal : 03/03/2013 8:59:46 am3/03/13

Version 1.44
- Villagers!
  - New papery style. The villagers were previously just copied from BitKnit.
  - Blacksmith with welding mask.
  - Librarian/scientist with glasses.
  - Hats for the priest and butcher.
- Change the bacony food bar a little.
- Make the portal animation work with the latest snapshot.

Book UI, Sand, Sandstone, ... : 02/24/2013 2:49:55 pm2/24/13

Version 1.43
- Customize book UI.
- Reduce contrast on sand and sandstone.
- Make alternate versions of iron and gold blocks that more closely resemble the default. I intended to just make these available at minecraftcustomizer.net, but the site is down, so I included them directly in the pack with the file name terrain-metal.png.
- Make paper-style icons the default again. I accidentally overwrote them with the traditional icons in the previous update.

Dirt, Leather Armor, Rails, Dropper, Water/Lava/Portal : 02/17/2013 2:50:51 pm2/17/13

Version 1.42
- Update dirt to have a different weave pattern. I am currently holding a vote for which stone/dirt/grass textures to keep as the default.
- Small updates to leather shirt and hat.
- Update powered (golden) rail to have gold in the texture. This distinguishes it from the activator rail in the recent snapshots.
- Use the old powered rail texture for activator rail in the snapshots.
- Add textures for the dropper and vertical dispenser in the snapshots.
- Make my custom animated water/lava/portal work in the snapshots.

Quartz, More Terrain Updates : 02/12/2013 7:33:36 pm2/12/13

Version 1.41
- Customize quartz blocks... plain, pillar, and chiseled.
- Make stone, dirt, and grass have a balance between the old (Terrain1) and new (Terrain2) textures...
  - Stone: Use a reduced-contrast version of the stone from Terrain2.
  - Grass: Use the texture from Terrain1.
  - Dirt: Use a texture similar to the grass texture from Terrain2.
  - Bedrock: Same as stone but darker and higher contrast.
  - Ores: Updated backgrounds to blend with new stone.

Stronger Terrain Textures : 02/05/2013 10:16:54 am2/05/13

Version 1.40
- Make stone, dirt, and grass have stronger textures...
  - Stone: Make cross hatch pattern more distinct and higher contrast.
  - Dirt: Use the subtle "perforated" pattern that I previously used for grass.
  - Grass: Use a woven pattern similar to my neutral colored wool but much fainter.
  - Bedrock: Same as stone but darker and higher contrast.
  - Ores: Updated backgrounds to blend with new stone.

I'm not sure whether I will keep these the default. I'm looking for feedback to help decide that.

Leather Armor, Gold Crown : 01/23/2013 11:50:50 am1/23/13

Version 1.39
- Customize leather/cloth armor (previously just copied from BitKnit).
- Create paper-style leather/cloth armor icons.
- Change gold helmet back into a crown (paper styled now).

Gold Armor, Fix Clock and Compass for 13w02b : 01/17/2013 12:15:27 pm1/17/13

Version 1.38
- Customize gold armor (previously just copied from BitKnit). It is currently based closely on the iron armor design, so the helmet is no longer a crown. I may or may not make it a crown later.
- Remove the clock and compass icons for 13w02b since I need to update them to follow the new animated format.

Support Minecraft Snapshot 13w02b : 01/13/2013 11:52:00 am1/13/13

Version 1.37
- Support Minecraft snapshot 13w02b.

- Customize skeleton (previously just copied from BitKnit).
- Customize wither skeleton.
- Customize wither.

Bacony Food Bar, Bat : 11/14/2012 9:38:35 am11/14/12

Congrats and thank you! I was hoping to do something special when it hit 1000 diamonds, but I haven't had time to plan anything. Back when it hit 256 diamonds (that's 16x16) I embedded a hidden "easter egg" in the textures. It led to a preview of the "paper style" icons that are now the default for the pack.

I'm gradually getting close to having all the vanilla Minecraft textures customized, so maybe I'll do something special when I hit "100%" complete.

New pigs' back looks weird, I love their new tail though, so adorable.

Also forgive me for my ignorance, I don't know what's supposed to be the white thing on their back.

It's supposed to be a "pig in a blanket". Basically, pigs themselves are pretty plain, so I wanted something to dress them up a bit. I decided to do them a favor and put a blanket over their back to keep them warm. :) Looks like I may need to rework it if it's not clear what it is.

Oh no, it's fine. I'm pretty sure other people get it.
English is just not my main language.

But would you mind add a version without blanket?
Random mobs would make good use of it (and customizer as well).

You should make a jungle creeper. It can be more green than a common creeper and covered in vines. Not cover its whole body with vines though. Just my suggestion. :)

That's a good idea. The vines could look nice as long as I can fit them onto the creeper and have it be clear what they are.

hey superalgae, have you ever thought of making this texturepack 32x32? like you can make 2 version of the texturepack, one 32x and one 16x.

I've considered it, but the current version of the pack is specifically crafted to look good at 16x16. For a higher-res version I'd want to give some thought and make good use of the extra detail. Right now my focus is on finishing the 16x16 version.

Awesome, definately my new redstone texture pack :D (instead of OCD pack.) One thing, can we have all the colors of wools in all the diffrent wool textures in the customizer? Would love to have all the wool blocks texturized as the gray-toned ones :)

You read my mind. Although minecraftcustomizer.net does not yet support Minecraft 1.5, I am currently making the Paper Cut-Out pack itself include MC1.5 compatible alternate textures, and I plan to provide the full set of wool colors for each pattern (weave, stripes, and diamonds).

The pack now includes alternate wool textures where all colors are the same pattern. The "weave" textures are under "textures/blocks/alt-wool-weave" in the zip file. Just copy the files from there into "textures/blocks".

When will 13w19a support be out?

Since 13w19a does not seem to make any change that would break texture packs, the latest Paper Cut-Out pack should already work with it. If you are asking when all the new textures will be customized, I don't plan to do that right away. Mojang may rework the textures before final release, so I'll wait for things to stabilize before investing too much effort in snapshot textures.

I assume "sowbload" is typo, but I really don't know what you're trying to say. If you are just not sure how to install a texture pack, there are tons of tutorials online.

I'm trying to help, but if you want me to do so, you'll need to use correct spelling/grammar and explain clearly. Nothing you've said so far is coherent enough for me to have any idea what the problem is. What version of Minecraft are you using? What version of the texture pack are you using? (Inside the zip file there is a "readme.txt" file that gives the version.) What procedure did you follow to install it? What exactly is not working-- Does it not show up in the list of texture packs? Is it there but some or all textures do not change when you select it? etc...

Are you still working on this project? When should we see an update for 1.5.1? Love this texture pack! Better then the default one and makes my minecraft run smoother and higher FPS!

It already supports 1.5.1, but I guess I forgot to update PMC's "game version" for it. I've now updated that (1.5 is the highest that PMC recognizes). I'll also be releasing an update to support the latest snapshot soon.

Some apples have a less round shape... http://i00.i.aliimg.com/img/pb/395/016/487/487016395_423.jpg

The new paper cut-out apple is an exaggeration of that. I went with that shape because it seems to work with the overlapping paper theme better. However, I like the rounder apples too, and I might go back to a rounder shape if I get some inspiration for how to do it in paper style.

I'll try to get an update for that released next week. I don't have access to my computer right now. Is anything actually broken when using Paper Cut-Out with 13w16a, or is it just that things are not customized?

I generally only get a few hours on the weekend to work on it, and since I'll often re-do a texture multiple times before I'm happy with it, that limits the amount I can get done.

In related news, I haven't had access to my computer this weekend, so I think the next update will not be until next week.

What happened to the connected textures? I remember that, for example, the sandstone had connected textures, but now that's gone! Was this intentional? Or is it just that it's too hard to make with the new texture-layout? If it's the last, then why do other texturepacks DO have it? If possible, please put it back, it really added something to the pack.

superalgae

I don't generally use connected textures myself, so I didn't notice they were no longer working. Maybe some change in minecraft or the mod broke them. I'll look into it.

Fixed. It was a bit of a pain to get CTM working for both MCPatcher and Optifine. Their implementations of CTM are not really compatible.

I tried it, but it still didn't work... I updated both my MC-patcher and I re-downloaded the pack, but it still didn't work. I tried placing two regular sandstone on top of each other, and I tried placing glass next to each other, but both didn't work. I hope you want to take the time to look into it again, but I understand if you don't want to.

I just tried downloading the pack from here and using it with a recent MCPatcher and Minecraft 1.5.1. It worked with that. Did the 1.5.2 update maybe overwrite your minecraft.jar that had MCPatcher applied?

Nixel

I also still use 1.5.1, so that can't be the problem...

Are other CTM texture packs working for you? If so, which ones, and are you using the latest versions of them? To avoid possible confusion, I suggest removing any old versions of paper cut-out from your texturepacks folder. Look at the readme.txt in the paper cut-out folder (or zip file) and verify that it is version 1.50.

Nixel
Level 2

My computer is too crappy to run most texture packs with more than 0.5 fps... And I checked the version: 1.49. Does that mean I have an outdated one? I'm sure I downloaded it AFTER you said you fixed it. I always first remove the old one and then I download the new one. I'm trying to re-download it now, but it can take a while, knowing my computer...

Edit: Ok, so for some reason, my computer got a random speed boost (that randomly happens some times), And the download has already finished. Checked the text file, now it says 1.50. I hope the CTM will work this time, I've searched SO long for a ctm texture pack that doesn't divide my fps by 15...

Yeah, you need version 1.50. Maybe PMC had a delay in updating the download link.

That was probably the case, because now it finally works for me! Thanks for putting effort in this, I really love the texture pack, and I still get a decent FPS with it, which is rare for my computer (its over 8 years old).
