Chapter 1
Rain pounded against the window, bringing me back to reality. I glanced at the clock. Only 3 more minutes untill class ended. I sighed and peered out the window, glancing over at my favorite bench. It was probably drenched after so many hours in the rain. I longed to run outside and tilt my head up to catch the raindrops. I perred over at the clock again. 1 more minute. BRINNNNNG! I threw my books into my messenger bag and sprinted to the far doors. I raced through the halls and out the large front doors. The rain felt soft against my skin, calming. I ran to my bench and threw my bag down. I lifted my chin towards the sky, opening my mouth. The rain water was sweet and cool, like an icy stream. I spun around and around, laughing. I bent down then threw my head up, spraying water droplets everywhere. I closed my eyes and smiled. I sighed and knew it was time to go. I opened my eyes and turned to grab my messenger bag. I froze. There was a boy watching me. He had black hair, green eyes, and a muscular build. I'd never seen him before so I knew he didn't go to my school. He was smiling at me. "Do you do that every day?" Now, this conversation could have gone one of 2 ways. I could sass talk him and leave him stunned, or I could just ignore him. I chose sass. I crossed my arms over my chest. "Only on Tuesdays," I said sarcastically. I smirked. He smiled back. I grabbed my bag and slung it over one shoulder. "So I'll take that as a yes." I smiled, I couldn't help it. He was just so... different. I started walking and the boy kept pace with me. "Why are you here?" I asked. "You don't go to this school." "I just moved here." "So then why weren't you in school today?" I questioned, raising an eyebrow. "I ditched." He gave no further explination. I nodded slowly. "So then why are you following me?" He was silent for a moment. "I like you." I blushed. "Like me? You..you only just met me!" "I know, but you're different somehow." Different... that's exactly what I had thought about him. "Ok, fine," I said, biting my lip. He bumped my shoulder lightly. I rammed him back. He bumped me harder, tipping me forward. I was about to let out a squeal when he grabbed my hand and pulled me back up. I was breathless. "Wow..." I stuttered. "G...ga...good reflexes." He didn't let go of my hand. I blushed and tried not to stare at our intertwined fingers. "My name's Red, by the way." "Red?" I raised my eyebrows. "Okay..." I said. "My name's... Kara." Red smiled and stopped walking. "What?" I asked, suddenly self conscious. "Can I tell you a secret?" I felt my forehead crease. "Um... sure?" He leaned forward so his lips were almost touching my ear. I felt my cheeks flush. "I like to dance in the rain too."
