Hey, first of all, this is somewhat a response to Chronalga's blog about things you shouldn't do to be succesful in MC. (Over here: www.planetminecraft.com/blog/how-to-not-survive-to-craft-another-day-10-things-you-shouldnt-do-if-you-want-to-be-successful-in-minecraft/)
His blog was more about Single Player, while I will be focussing on Multiplayer. (In this case, Survival with pvp and base raiding allowed)

So, let's just start right away!
Don't:

#10: Build your house on surface
No, honestly, if you actually want your base being raided, go ahead, and put it on the surface. Instead dig some bit into the ground, and hide your entrance with dirt, stone, or whatever suits you. Heck, if you can, maybe even block it off with a nice redstone door.

#9: Have all your items in one place
If your base happens to get found, and people will find your chestroom, you will loose everything. You can put your main items in the same room, but leave 1 or 2 hidden chests with emergency resources, or your valuables elsewhere. Don't put a map in your main chestroom, so you can remember where you put your hidden chests. though.

#8: Invite people to your base you think you trust
No. Just no. Guaranteed that if you get people to your base, it will be empty within some days. The best thing is to trust no one, except those you actually know in real life. Also don't go 'teaming' with other people from day 1 (Except those irl friends, or someone you've known for very long from, for example, another MC server) as there is a good chance they will betray you eventually.

#7: Place anything outside your base
Yeah, don't go and make a nice lit farm outside of your so called hidden base. That kinda defeats the purpose of 'hidden' doesn't it? Also think about torches, redstone, trees, massive rows of reed along the coast, trees and signs.

#6: Be food'a'lacking
It's a dangerous world out there, don't be a hero without food. Make sure you have a little food stash in your base. Devide your food in 2, or more chests, of which at least 1 is hidden. That way, if you happend to get robbed, you can still survive a little while. If you have just started on the server, get food first, then go for the base.

#5: Build near the spawn area
People'll WILL search the spawn and surrounding area for cool items. Depending on the size of the server, walk a decent bit before you even start thinking of making a base. With a server which has like 20 people online at average, try walking at least 3,000 blocks. If it's a big server, with 100 people on average, start thinking of building at around 5,500 blocks.

#4: Go base-raiding and/or pvp'ing with your inventory stuffed
That is like the stupidest thing you can do. If you think you're good with your diamond armor and diamond sword, and you happen to come across someone who enchanted all his gear, and obliterates you with his Sharpness IV, Flame I sword. Then you lose all your precious items you had just raided in someones base.

#3: Keep going when you just robbed someone
If you found someones base and took his items, the first thing you do is go back to your own base to store your new items. If you keep going you will have a greater loss if you get killed, and if you do find another base, you can't take the items from there, because your inventory is full. It's a lose-lose situation if you do that.

#2: Have animal farms directly below surface
You know, cows are too bloody noisy, they even moo through 3 meters of solid dirt and rock. The same goes for the pigs, chickens, and sheep. If you want an animal farm, make it near bedrock, where people can't hear them. And if you want to keep noise from coming out your base, it's best to not install a jukebox.

#1: Throw things away
KEEP. EVERYTHING. Seriously, throwing things away is one of the worst things you can do. Even keep the rotten flesh. Even though it might hurt you, food is food. If you're dying from hunger, and don't have any food left, you'd be wishing you hadn't throw away those 2 stacks of rotten meat. It's not the best food, but it gives you time to get TO the best food.

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed! If there's anything you think this blog is lacking, do tell! If you have other suggestions, also, please tell! I might could make more of these. ;)
I'd love a diamond if you liked it, and a sub would work if you'd like to see more from me.

Cheers'

That's kinda the problem I had making the blog. I could make one for every kind of server in existence, but yeah... :l

I did it with the base raiding and pvp though, because I play on one of those myself.
