Finally! It's as if an eternity has passed since the 1.10 update has been released -- after an agonizing FOUR MONTHS of anticipation, the 1.11 update, a.k.a. the Exploration Update, has FINALLY been announced at this year's Minecon in California! Although I must admit that the apparent snapshots of the update really were kinda disappointing, the upcoming update is actually a LOT better than it seemed, containing even more additions than the past update:

1) Two Brand-New Types of Villagers!

Apart from the generic villager, Mojang has also given us another completely unexpected addition -- Cartographer Villagers! Trading emeralds and compasses for all sorts of goodies, these white-robed villagers will provide the player with items as valuable as treasure maps, which lead the players to all sorts of temples, monuments and the like! And of course, speaking of naturally-generated structures...

2) Woodland Mansions!

Yes, you've heard it right -- another major addition of the Exploration Update is an awesome new structure for the player to explore: the WOODLAND MANSION! Despite the fact that these mansions are actually quite rare, the goodies it contains surely makes up for its rarity. For starters, these mansion, apart from simply containing chests brimming with loot, actually make pretty swell living quarters for players. All one needs to do is light the place up, and you've got your very own stylish, pre-built manor to reside in! Of course, you'd also have to defeat the monsters that reside in them, too...

3) Four Brand-New Mobs!

As I was saying, the Woodland Mansion, apart from simply containing treasures and looking awesome, also contain 3 deadly new types of monsters to slay -- the Vindicator, the Evoker and also the Vex. The Vindicator, which is a grayish look-alike of the villager, wields an iron axe and attacks the player with it, dealing a considerable amount of damage per strike. The Evoker, on the other hand, is a lot tougher -- possessing its own unique Fang Attack, the Evoker can summon fangs of stone that erupt from the ground, which deal a downright MASSIVE 25 HP of damage per strike. These spell-casters also have the ability to summon Vexes, transparent bat-like sword-wielding minions that can pass through blocks and deal damage by flying into the player. Fortunately, their addition really isn't all that bad as they drop precious loot upon death -- Totems of the Undying! Even MORE powerful than enchanted golden apples, these Totems provide the player with TWO LIVES, reviving the player once their health reaches zero and providing them with regeneration, absorption and resistance. Apart from the three new monsters, the update also brings us a new kind of mob to tame -- Llamas! No, I'm not pulling your leg here -- with their own inventories and everything, Llamas can be ridden instead of horses, and require carpets rather than saddles to be controlled. They also have a habit of spitting at wolves, so don't let it anywhere near your dog...

4) Shulker Boxes!

Crafted with Shulker shells and a chest, shulker boxes allow you to do something SERIOUSLY awesome -- to store a container along with its items in your inventory! When broken, the shulker box drops itself only, with all its items still stuffed safely inside it. Most useful, no?

One has to admit that the Exploration Update is definitely living up to its name. Explorers rejoice! :D

All that did was speed up the process of finding the fortress.
Been there done that, now lets leave the ocean forever. :/
I really think they need to add something to the ocean, many people just ignore it, (except for the occasional sea fortress) and that's just too bad. They could make it amazing with just a little effort, its been neglected for a looong time.

Lovely article, though I was a bit disappointed with the update, Even though I LIVE to explore, I think the evil villager aspect was fine but the ghosts and the totems a bit much. I cant wait to try out the llamas and shulker boxes though! All in all, its not the worst thing that's ever happened, but I was hoping they would improve the ocean biomes more, (right now they're REALLY bland) Like sharks, moving fish, coral reef biomes, sea caves, maybe even floating "sea weed" with the same consistency as cobwebs! Now THAT would be cool, and kinda realistic. And if they had wanted to add to the "EXPLORING" factor, they should have added sunken pirate ships. I'm hoping for that and more, maybe even ridable sea turtles!

I was extremely busy with school Andy stuff and didn't get to catch up on/go to Minecon (Even though I live in LA), so this whole thing is extremely useful. The new mobs all sound awesome, especially the llamas. Also, I'm glad that my favorite biome is getting some love! ^-^

Considering I haven't yet read up on this upcoming update, I found this to be extremely informative and helpful.

I'm very interested to see how the treasure maps will go. Additionally, I am a bit unsatisfied with the Woodland Mansion structures, simply because it takes away from the survival aspect--which Minecraft grew greatly off of back then, and makes it that much easier to obtain rarer materials in a less "legitimate" way. I really hope Mojang doesn't continue to implement more and more random structures, as it takes away from the survival experience in all. Why go mining when you can just look around for all these structures--Desert Temple, Jungle Temple, Blacksmith Chests, and now Woodland Mansions, for all your valuable materials?

Furthermore, I am really disapproving of the Evoker mob, as this "Fang-summoning" skill because it seems really overpowered, first off, and these "Totems of the Undying" thing I am reading, also seems, way too overpowered, if you say these are more powerful than enchanted Golden Apples, and you can use them just "like that", this definitely calls for a debuff. I wonder how the UHC (Ultra-Hardcore) community will interpret this new feature.

Again, this article was really good--from what I'm pulling from this writing I have very mixed feelings about this update, although there are a few neat features which don't totally turn the game upside-down.
