Oh dear. I'm writing ANOTHER faction article! But let's face it: it's hard to have a good faction! Many factions rise and fall, but most don't rise at all. Wouldn't you love it if your faction were THE faction to be in, that awesome super-selective one where only the best players go? Here's a short (ok, really long!) list of tips for a great faction collected from members of the best factions on several servers.
1. Instead of saying "Recruiting new members!" into chat or adding randoms, recruit new members on the forums of the server or on PMC here. People who fill out a short application are more likely to be devoted members.
2. Build a good base. That little wooden hut above ground is NOT going to cut it. Just bring in a tnt cannon and it's gone. Rather, make it in the sky, out of obsidian, deep underground, or covered with water.
3. Always use faction chat. You wouldn't want your enemy overhearing your plans, would you? Just do /f chat f to switch to faction chat.
4. Don't be a noob. Of course, you can't always break all your nooby habits and instantly become super cool, but you can at least try to be less nooby. One of my other blog posts has instructions on that.
5. Gather lots of resources! Stock up on anything you may need and store it in a safe obsidian room.
6. NEVER let anyone teleport into your base. They can write down coordinates and sell them, then you get raided!
7. dnt chtspk. use vwls. thn ppl cn undrstnd u.(Don't chatspeak. Use vowels. Then people can understand you.)
8. Make a creative faction description. "We are the best!" is rather unoriginal (because everyone already knows you're best, of course). Try something more powerful. A person favourite of mine is, "Sugar is sweet, but revenge is sweeter." Bwahahaha! That sounds so epic!
9. Don't offer base tours. Just...don't.
10. Organize your base. I was once in a faction where the farm was in the sky and the storage chests were at bedrock and in between was a mixture of random useless rooms and wrecked machines. Please organize!
11. Don't claim too much land, you have to keep your power high and land low. Use /unclaimall if you've claimed too much, then reclaim your base.
12. If you get raided, bounce back. Keep secret chests here and there, store valuables in an ender chest, and ALWAYS have a backup base!
13. Vaults are very useful.
14. Make sure all members of your faction know how factions work. e.g. the commands.
15. Did you know you can use /f owner to assign a plot of land to a member of the faction? This can keep their chests safe!
16. Be a good sport. Don't accuse someone of hacking if they kill you (unless they were hacking).
17. Don't scam people. It's not nice and will give you a bad reputation.
18. Be nice to your members. They respect you, you should respect them. Otherwise they might betray.
19. Watch your power. If someone has very low power, kick the person out until they have more power.
20. Enchant your armour and swords. Yeah, it takes a long time to get good enchantments, but it's worth it in the end.
21. Raid regularily to get supplies, money, and valuables.
22. Don't bother to raid little factions with a few really young members and a bad base. They are rarely worth the effort (nothing worth stealing) and you just end up making some little kid cry. Doesn't that bother your conscience?
23. Never invite staff members to join just because they are staff! Sometimes staff betray too. :(
24. Be active on the forums and gain respect. A respected faction is a powerful one.
25. Be feared! Your faction has to be the one that everyone both loves and hates. It's your job to turn it into that kind.
Hope you enjoyed my list, post any other tips below.

You can type /f f (Your faction name) to find out your factions stats or on some servers type (/f who (faction Name)
Keep up the good work!
Right now, I'm working on a new base on the faction server listed at the end of my article.
It's still under construction and isn't as good as I'd like it to be, but you can come see anyways.
My ign is MattMk2, so say hi if you see me and I'll give you a tour.
Thanks for reading my article. :)
