So guys after a huge amount of requests im making a new tutorial.

Skin used in blog: here
old tutorial: here

A guide To Skinning, Shading and other tips and tricks

So before you jump in saying, im gonna make an amazing skin!
STOP
do you even know how to make a skin? , or how to shade ? or the tools you'll need to do so?
no i didnt think so.

this tutorial uses paint.net

Tools
so your gonna want to know all the tools to make your skin as good as possible, and how to use them properly. (i will only list the tools you need to know).
BVOYEjpg
Box Select: used to drag a box over a area of your skin.
Move Selected: used to move a selected area of your skin
Magic Wand: used to select everything of a similar color
Eraser: used to... erase
Pencil: used to draw one pixel lines, your best friend
Color Picker: used to pick colors from picture or parts of your skin.

AldKjpg
Color Page: allows you to pick colors , the area circled in red is used to add black or white to your color

Once you know how to make your tools, lets learn how to shade.

Shading
Shading can be the difference between a good skin and a bad skin, but before we jump in shading a skin, lets shade a square.
Llnupng
Here is our Square, looks pretty boring doesnt it, well lets shade it.
first select black on your colors, then go to the transparency and set it somewhere around 30-ish.
lWtisjpg
ok? now you want to click once with your transparent color around the edge of your square
HqEpng
Next just add one click in each corner,
CuQpng
Next you want to click again in the corner, then click once next to it on all sides.
yuijBpng
like so, you keeping up? now continue this sort of pattern inwards
Brjupng
Looks good doesnt it? but theres a huge space between the corners follow the pattern you did in the cornes, but do it in the middle of each side.
kLKnxpng
Its looks nice doesnt it? try and remember this pattern when shading:
uxwdpng
Just click with the transparent black as the same amount of times as the number.
So youve shaded it, but in reality things also have light parts.
so were gonna add highlights.

How to Highlight:
Highlights really improve how a skin looks and there actually quite simple.
First get your transparent black and slide it all the way down to white.
GBTvjpg
this is what we'll be using to highlight and it follows the same pattern as before.
Simply click once in the middle and then continue it outwards, just like before.
kSmrepng

smRspng

QWdxpng

Quite simple isnt it?
Try and remember it like this:
SBExpng
Click the amount of times it says with the transparent white and you'll get your highlight.
Now lets add those highlights to the square:
LRVpng
And WALLAH! youve shaded it!

Making a Skin
So first you need to decide what your making a skin of.
if your making a skin from scratch then you'll need to make your own colors, if your making a skin of something, then take colors of the picture.
ill be making a skin of Charlieissocoolike.
Charlie-charlieissocoollike---

First lets just make a flat colored skin.
qfmIpng
I took my colors straight of the picture by using the color picker tool, but i made them slightly lighter so there easier to shade.

So do what we did with our square, darken around the edge of each section.
nAUdEpng
You Getting how this works? So for some small parts it best just to darken the lift and right, not the top and bottom.
Ok ( ive accidently deleted everything past this point twice already so bare with).

Ok! so now you to like last time darken the corners then continue it inwards.
if its in a tight space then you want to use this sort of pattern.
3223
2112
1001
AxyGYpng
then just continue it even further and inbetween parts shade.
Now just continue it one more shade inwards (i hope you guys can still understand this)
gGhgpng
Looks great doesnt it? now all it needs is highlights
remember them like this:
SBExpng
So add them:
KgseQpng
And wallah!
theres one thing ive done here that i havnt said.
ive darkened parts that would have a shadow on them.
these are all the parts that need to be made much darker:
UIHpng
do this by just dragging with the box slect tool over the areas , then clicking with the transparent black.
And you should have a skin like this:
GZrJmjpg

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and if you did be sure to leave a diamond and subscribe as it would mean so much!
thanks as always guys.

Anyway Frost Out!
Byeee!!!!!!

Listen, when your trying to make an awesome skinning tutorial, never, and I repeat, NEVER, use tools for it because what if someone cant use the program or just doesn't feel like downloading, to many people don't realize that they should make skinning tutorials that you could do with any skinning program.

Try picking your own colors. A transparent black looks alright, but the highlights look like white stains. if your going to use transparent at all, I recommend that you take the color your shading, and bring it down 3/4 on the V bar and 7/8 back on the S bar. Then if you want to, use the transparent color. Picking your own colors is the way to go.
