A New World: Life of Steve

Life had not always been this way for Steve, He had a life, but now he wanders the land searching for the answer he will never find. It is over for him, he chose his path, and now he must live with the consequences of the choice. The choice has brought him to this point, alone. Steve was not always his name, but the years have stolen his memory of who he was or what his name was. The language of his people has been lost to him. No longer does he remember, but that was not always so.

Steve has walked the land of Minecraft for ten thousand years, Walking through the land that he once loved, only the few who have managed to survive still exist today, Villagers. They trade with Steve, not because they have forgotten his crimes but because of their teachings of compassion and because of his protection from the zombies. The Zombies. The undead reminder of his thirst for power, but that is now, Our story begins over ten thousand years ago, in the capital of Minecraft, in Elysium.

“Wake up brother, we do not want to be late again, I would like to not be lectured by teacher again.” A voice said to the sleeping Steve.

“I know, I know, I am getting up, brother.” [Steve] spoke tiredly as he sat up in bed.

“Well hurry up we don’t have much longer”

“Come on, Herobrine, we won’t be late.” [Steve] said as he jumped from bed and pulled his shirt and pants on.

The two brothers ran out of their home down the main road towards the Great Bridge. While crossing the bridge [Steve] stopped and looked over at the valley below the mountain city of Elysium. He leaned against the rail and breathed in deeply, closing his eyes.

“What are you doing come on!” Herobrine said looking back at his brother, “We only have a couple more minutes.”

“You worry too much” [Steve] said turning towards his brother.

“Well, you don’t worry enough.” Herobrine laughed.

The two brothers ran across the bridge and up the stairs. Running into the Main Hall they jumped into the two open seats at the back of the class. As they sat down they heard a loud chime. Their teacher looked up at his class and spoke. “Cutting it close again, eh boys?”

“Sorry, Teacher.” The two brothers spoke in unison.

“Well at least you managed to get here on time. Now, Class today I will be teaching you about something truly…Unique” The Teacher commanded over the class, “Now many of the people in the city do not wish for me to teach you about this, but I feel that this is vital for your survival. Many of you will journey through the mines, or maintain your farms just like your parents, but the few of you who do voyage beyond our mountain peak will face threats that are beyond comprehension.”

“You mean like the Giant Spiders?” a student asked.

“Yes, like giant spiders, but also creatures that can move at incredible speed and that can teleport in the blink of an eye,” The Teacher responded.

“You aren’t talking about Endermen, are you Teacher? That seems a bit farfetched don’t you think?” Herobrine spoke.

“As a matter-o-fact I am, Herobrine. These creatures do exist and I have seen them first-hand. They are unlike anything that you will ever encounter.” The Teacher spoke solemnly.

The teacher continued his lecture over the dangers that laid beyond the safety of Elysium, “Also spread throughout the land lay creatures of corruption, once pigs they were possessed by the forces of darkness. Now they are creatures that will explode if you get to close to them. Avoid them at all costs. You must also be weary of their charged form.”

Looks of confusion spread throughout the class. The Teacher smiled and then continued from where he had left off, “These creatures called ‘Creepers’ are a threat as they are but if they are struck by lightning they become truly dangerous. An electric charge flows throughout their body, when they attack their explosion is much larger than the regular blast. If you encounter a Super Charged Creeper, run. It is your only chance of survival.”

After his explanation of these creatures he passed out papers that had pictures of the creatures and short bios of them. Each picture also included a warning over how dangerous they were. When [Steve] acquired his papers he spoke aloud to the teacher.

“These creatures do not seem all that dangerous, with the proper protection and a decent weapon they would all be quickly dispatched. Since any of us that would be traveling outside the city would be well equipped, avoidance is natural but in a pinch they would be no challenge. In reality, they are no more threat than anything that is out in the wilderness.”

“Very wise, [Steve] but you will never know how many you may face, or for that matter what situation you will be in when you encounter when you see one.” The Teacher grinned at the response from his student. The class then began to discuss how they would deal with these foes.

When there where fifteen minutes left before the Final Chime. He spoke to his class again, “I will be leaving the city for a month” He paused for the cheers from his students, “Of course this means that you will have a four week break, but I did not want you to get bored without any work so I have an assignment for you all.” He paused as the cheers quickly turned to moans.

“Your task is to write a 30 page report on what you did over this break, you may works in groups of two or three, and the group that writes the best paper will receive High Marks for the rest of the year. Now, pick your groups and then give me the names of who all is in your group before you leave.”

“Isn’t this great?” Herobrine said as he and his brother walked out of the school.

“What do you mean? We have to write a 30 page report.” [Steve] replied.

“Yeah, but if we write the best paper we will get High Marks for the rest of the year.”

“Yeah, so for me I won’t have to come back for the rest of the year, but you will just barely break even.”

“Good enough for me” Herobrine said as they started across the bridge.

“So then what is your plan for us to do that will make a great paper? Or have you, like always, not thought that far ahead.”

Herobrine stopped and began leaning on the rail looking over at the valley below. After a few moments he spoke. “I have no idea”

“We could go, find and bring back the head of an Endermen. Along the way we can write about finding one.” [Steve] thought aloud

“That is a great idea” Herobrine said turning towards his brother.

“I was just kidding, why don’t we just go to the Ether, I hear the hot springs are great.” [Steve] responded.

“Oh, where is your sense of adventure?” Herobrine said jokingly punching his brother in the arm.

“Fine, fine. We will go on this crazy journey, but can we at least go to the Ether when we get back?”

“Sure, when we get back, but it will pale in comparison to what we are gonna do.” Herobrine said proudly.

That next morning the two brothers backed their bags with food, water and gear for their journey. They made way to the City Gate and then for the base of the mountain and then to the river at the base of the mountain.

Looking up at Elysium [Steve] spoke, “Looks amazing from down here.”

“Yeah, but we still have a long way to go.” Herobrine replied.

The two then walked over to the boathouse and spoke to the man who ran it.

“What can I help you two boys with?” The boatman asked.

“We would like to buy a boat from you.” [Steve] replied.

“That’ll be 4 emeralds.” The boatman replied.

Handing over the emeralds the boatman led the boys to the boat and waved them on. The two made way down the river. Looking back [Steve] has a feeling of sadness as his home slowly fell out of sight.

Seven hours later the two reached a small cave near where the river emptied out into the ocean. They docked their boat and walked over to the cave. Seeing that no one was in they made camp for the night.

Looking at the back wall of the cave Herobrine saw strange markings on the wall. He spoke to his brother, “Hey, [Steve], what do these markings mean?”

“Jeez, do you never pay attention in class, it is written in Standard Galactic,” [Steve] replied. “You’d be lost without me. It says… Those who seek power, need only follow the beings of The End, huh I wonder what it means?”

“Look it is continued down here.” Herobrine replied looking down further on the wall.

They linger in the light. They move in Darkness. They know of The End. Seek them for True Power. Seek The Endermen.

“No, this is some freaky cult-level stuff” Herobrine said.

“Well do you wanna still look for an Endermen?” [Steve] replied.

“Yeah, we’ve come this far might as well go a little further.”

Over the next week the two brothers journeyed on looking for signs of the Endermen. At the end of the second week they came across an old church in the center of the woods.

“Hey Herobrine look at this, more writing.” [Steve] said.

“What does it say?”

To see, you must give in. Only by releasing your power may you gain power.”

“What type of cryptic…?” Herobrine started.

“I think it means that we need to leave our worry behind. To not be afraid is the only way. Also there is some sort of stone on the alter. Around it, it says to touch the stone and release your worries.”

“Okay, let’s do it”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

With that the two brothers touched the stone. Their world began to spin. Their vision turned purple and then black. They awoke in a room the likes of which they had never seen before. They found themselves tied up facing a strange portal and surrounded by men in black robes.

“We offer to you, oh Dragon from beyond. Take these offerings to fuel your body, and grant us True Power!” one of the robed men spoke.

“No, no, you can’t do this” Herobrine yelled as he shook against the ropes.

“Silence. You will be the first to go.” The Robed man yelled.

Herobrine still screaming the robed men picked him up and tossed him into the black portal. Purple smoke arose from the portal.

“No! What did you do? Herobrine, my brother!” [Steve] screamed at the robed men who turned to see he was awake.

“Ah the other is awake.” The man began, “Toss him in as well.”

As the robed men stepped towards [Steve] the room began to shake. Light began to shoot from the portal and smoke filled the room. The smoke poured into the lungs of all who were in the room. [Steve] felt his body grow string as his lungs were filled, but his head felt heavy, and his vision blurred. Looking at the portal he saw his brother rise up. His back turned to his brother he stepped out of the portal. The robed men charged towards him. Herobrine grabbed each that approached and snapped their necks. With the leader all that remained Herobrine hovered towards him. Grabbing him he lifted the man up causing the man’s hood to fall. It was their Teacher!

Now You Die! Herobrine thundered.

“No, no, how this could have happened? I was supposed to gain that power.” Their teacher cried.

With his pushing his former teacher up against the wall he took his other and punched his teacher’s face repeatedly, when his teacher’s body fell limp he dropped it on to the ground and continued to beat it in. When Herobrine’s hands turned bloody he stood up and turned to his brother and released him.

Brother, join me, Let me bestow unto you this new found power, the old bag was right, The End does bring power.” Herobrine spoke to [Steve].

“I do not want the power that you have, it has corrupted you. Look what you did!” [Steve] pleaded.

Fine, you do not want my power, you are no better than they. I will spare your life but this world will fear me. I have been given my orders. This world shall burn

“Brother, no…” [Steve] spoke as he fell on the ground and passed out.

[Steve] awoke in the empty room. Only he and the portal remained. He looked around and saw the hooded bodies that lay on the ground. He turned towards the portal when a deep purple ray burst from the portal. It blasted a hole through the ground up into the sky. [Steve] covered his head from the debris as it fell around him. Turning back to the portal he saw as tall skinny creatures of darkness escaped from the portal into the sky. [Steve] was consumed with terror. He fell unconscious as the Endermen lifted him into the air.

He awoke in the valley beneath Elysium. He looked up and ran to up the mountain to warn of Herobrine. As he reached the City he saw Herobrine touch the portal to the Ether and then heard him speak.

No longer will this place be a refuge, it will be a place for my armies to grow. It will be a Hellish nightmare for those who sought comfort. Now this place shall be called the Nether. Lava will flow where once water did, the land will burn.

With that the portal turned from a bright blue to purple. Screams could be heard from beyond the portal. Running towards his brother [Steve] yelled out, “What have you done!”

“This is what was keeping you from accepting my power. Now there is nothing keeping you from joining me. Brother accept my power. Join me and we can rule the world of Minecraft. Together.” Herobrine commanded.

“I will NEVER join you, you have become a monster.” [Steve] replied as he ran at his brother.

“Fine, if you will not join me then I will destroy this world until you do!” Herobrine yelled as he flew away from the mountain. He then sent his Endermen form above to destroy the city. [Steve] jumped into the waterfall to escape the destruction.

Waking up at the base of the mountain with the realization that his brother had lost it [Steve] returned to the portal that his brother had gone into. He jumped in knowing that he would have to confront whatever evil lay on the other side. [Steve] found himself in realm of nothingness. Pillars stood topped with crystals and there at the center a Blackish-Purple Dragon rested, it turned to [Steve] and spoke.

“What is it that you wish? Do you seek power? Vengeance? Speak.”

“I seek the power to stop my brother I want him to return to how he once was!” [Steve] yelled out.

The dragon laughed. While it did so [Steve] rushed towards the dragon blade ready and stabbed the Dragon in the heart. It yelled out in pain.

“What have you done to me?” The Dragon cried out.

“I have brought you to your end.” [Steve] spoke.

“You will not stop your brother, he has power on par with my own.” The Dragon said as its body began to disintegrate.

“I guess we will see.” [Steve] said as he grabbed the obsidian crystal that the dragon held inside. [Steve] crafted himself a weapon out of the crystals and jumped into the portal.

Steve found himself in the center of a city that was caught in the war path of Herobrine.

            “Stop!” [Steve] yelled out.

“Ah, so my brother has decided to face me, you cannot stop me, brother. This city will face the same fate as so many others.” Herobrine yelled out as his body twitched.

“The power you have acquired is killing you. The Dragon is dead, and soon you will be too.” [Steve] spoke pointing his sword at his brother.

Herobrine charged at [Steve] but with one swipe [Steve]’s blade connected with Herobrine. The connection caused a blast of energy to expel into the sky. The skies turned dark with rain the color of black. [Steve] stood at the center of the destruction with his brother dying before him. His body fading into nothingness. Looking up Herobrine spoke his final words.

“I curse you brother may you NEVER die! You shall walk this land for ETERNITY! NEVER to find peace, or feel the sweet release of DEATH! The spirits of those who died shall seek YOU out for leading me to my DAMNATION! They will hunt for justice from those who lived!” And with that Herobrine faded away. His curse breathed unto his brother. [Steve] looked up as the rain turned from black to clear.

-Ten Thousand Years Later-

Steve walked the world, He had slowly forgotten himself. He no longer knew his name. He would find portals that led to the Dragon and he would defeat it time and time again. Over the millennia people began to resurface. They formed villages and spoke of how an immortal had caused the death of the world, and of how the ruins of it are still around.

They spoke of how the Steve Race had once rule dover the world, but how one day a Steve had gained power and unleashed darkness unto the world. They knew not that [Steve] was not the one who caused the darkness, but was responsible for the destruction of his home. For he planted the idea that led to the corruption of his brother.
