Kids these days.

... Ok, I know most of you are "kids" to me, even though many of you are above the age of majority. I like to go on and on about how I'm so OLD and DECREPIT, etc. But for the record, my KIDS are the age of the average PMC user. Older, actually.

Anyhow.

WHAT THE HECK IS UP with everyone asking people to do STUFF for them, for FREE? "Make me a skin, make me a server, populate it, host it, moderate it and pay for a teamspeak channel for ME so YOU can record ME making a freakin' LET'S PLAY, so I can be famous on youtube for 3.2 seconds!"

... Let's just say I have an issue with this.

Some of the people on this website are graphic artists. They make computer graphics FOR A LIVING. Others are programmers. They code software FOR A LIVING. There are videographers, screenplay writers, artists, musicians, actors, etc. Some do what they do for pay, others do what they do for fun. But that does NOT make it ok to ask them to do it for YOU for FREE.

When I'm not writing, I'm a teacher. I like teaching. I teach college students. But I'm well-paid for my time. Sometimes it annoys me that people want me to teach them something that they could easily google on their own, and learn on their own. Especially when I get paid $40/hr to teach. $60 to tutor! Would YOU give me $120 worth of YOUR time for nothing? Just askin'.

Sometimes I teach because people genuinely want to learn, and I like seeing the look of "ah HA" on their face when they "get" the concept. That, I'd gladly do for free, any time. But when someone says "do it FOR me" I get really angry.

Every time I see another "I want to do a Let's Play, but YOU host the server, and YOU video it, and give ME the credit" forum posts I have to physically restrain myself from hitting the delete button. (You'll note, I haven't done it yet.) These requests are rude, and the HEIGHT of laziness. If you don't know how to host a server, LEARN. There are tons of wikis and webpages out there that will teach you, step by step, how to do it. Coming here and demanding to know how to do it is just as bad as asking someone to do it for you... go LOOK.

If you want to build a mod, LEARN TO PROGRAM. Otherwise, post the idea up and let someone else code it and take the credit for it. Don't expect someone to do your work for you, so you can say "I made this."

This crosses over neatly into my feelings for people who download skins or schematics or world saves and then repost them, claiming them for their own. It's lazy, it's rude, it's THEFT. HOWEVER... at the same time... if you are the person who's idea has been stolen, and you really have an issue with that... don't post your work on a public forum! Because there are a LOT of people who are lazy thieves. And your work WILL get stolen. If you want to show your work off and not have it stolen, post screenshots instead. People can go "oooooh, ahhhhhhh" and if they REALLY like it, they can give you the utmost compliment and recreate it themselves. By doing the work THEMSELVES.

Remember: nobody who creates Minecraft texturepacks, skins or mods is getting paid for their time. Mojang is the only person making money here. We do what we do because we love doing it. Do NOT be the reason people stop sharing their creativity for free on this awesome invention, the Internet. Have respect, give credit where credit is due, ASK PERMISSION if in doubt, and THANK people for their hard work.

And eat your veggies. They'll put hair on your chest.

You really should implement this type of a topic in all the forums as a default topic that everyone should read saying that if they don't follow these rules about asking for something that is two clicks away from their brains, their post will get removed. I completely agree with this blog because it explains the truth about any type of gaming forum. People think it's alright because it's a gaming forum to request people to create servers for them, Let's Play series, etc. And what do the providers of all this get? Some type of a "prize" that apparently sounds good to the requester but everyone else is just like, "Is this guy serious?"

P.S. I also think that PMC's average user-base's age is probably under 14 which is the main cause of all these requests. Well to those people I say, it doesn't matter what age you are! Google is open to anyone, any age!

I find it funny that a topic saying exactly what you're talking about, with 'can you host the server, record, build, act, and do all of this for me so I can post it on my own channel,' just appeared.

True dat! (it means your right xD,well you did say your OLD :P)

i can just imagine you being a teacher...writing long paragraphs ranting xD

But i bet your a really good teacher :),and you play minecraft so that makes you automatically the best teacher ever!

On the lets play topic, you haven't got a chance of getting big like SeaNanners or the ever loved(bleh)(i like them but there is better ones out there)Yogscast because my favourite lets player there is UberHaxorNova says it took him 3-5 years to get 175,000 subscribers.Lets face it no-one else with have the patience to do that, and there is FAR too many anyway,no-one would watch yours out of the thousands that are made each week. The only reason people love the Yogscast anyway is because of the Shadow of Israphel series, and then they go and 'recreate something like it'(copy it).And someone asking you to make something for free for them if they don't have a for example skin shop open is just plain rude in my opinion they spend hard work making/doing what they want to do/make if that is skins, projects or mods.It is just ridiculous to ask someone to personally make you one,so then you will most probably take the credit for there hard work. But some people do in some way get 'paid' for making a mod/texture pack ect. by using adf.ly,but that is hardly anything for the amount of money they should be receiving for their hard work.Lastly,I eat mah greens! :D

Completely true, I agree. However, I do know some friends willing to host a server for free. It doesn't take much effort, but if you want it to be amazing then I can understand the point your making on that.

I know it doesn't take much to set up a server for someone... it's the fact that so many people have this issue of entitlement... "do this for me." It's the absolute backwards of the way the world should be.
