A Snowy Friend

Once upon a time there was a little boy called Steve. He had a momma and a papa who loved him dearly. Who would spend all their free time with him. He played with them in his room, in the backyard and even under the bed in his momma and papa's bedroom. This was fun. But he was missing something. He missed a friend. A friend where he could talk to. Who would listen to all the things he had on his mind.

"Momma, can I play outside?" Asked Little Steve. His momma looked outside and pointed to the sky. "It's gonna snow honey. Best to stay inside for now. Would not want to get you sick. Come draw a snowman with me. That will cheer you right up" said his momma. And so little Steve looked once more outside and signed. His bottom lip trembled. He just wanted to play outside and make friends.

Drawing was a talent that Little Steve had mastered pretty quick. He was 5 years now and could colour inside the lines. His momma was so proud of his snowman. She even put the drawing up on the fridge.

"Steve?" asked Momma. "Why did you draw a square head on the snowman? You know they are round right."

"Yes Momma, but now he can have a pumpkin on his head. HE'S GOT A ORANGE HEAD" Shouted Little Steve.

A soft rumble was heard out front. "Papa is home." Said momma. Little Steve ripped the drawing from the fridge, ran with it out the front door and towards the car. "Papa, papa look a snowman with a pumkin head. I drew it. All by myself."

Papa crouched down towards Little Steve. "Wow Steve, that is so cool. Well done my boy!" He picked Steve up and carried him inside. "Hello my lovely Wife" and gave momma a kiss. "Eeewww" said Steve with a scrunched up face.

Momma and papa both laughed. "Let's have Dinner shall we" said Momma.

And so their evening went on like usual. The family had Dinner, relaxed in the living room and read a bedtime story to Little Steve.

In the meanwhile, it had begun to snow outside. But the snow was different this time. More heavier, whiter and even more snowy. What no one could see in this snow coming down, were four little pink hands rolling snow in two little balls. "Ssssshh" said one hand. "We have to be quiet and hurry up!" And so they they kept rolling and rolling. Untill they had the perfect round balls of snow. "What now?" Asked one hand. "We stack them together of course. We just have to find a perfect head for this guy"

"Wait!" Said another hand. "What about that thing over there." He pointed to the neighbours porch. There perched on top of a table was a big orange pumpkin.

"Perfect, Yes, cool" the remaining hands said. Off they went. The four little pink hands hauled the big pumpkin on their two snow balls.

Once it was done. They stood back and admired their work. "Now we just need a little magic" All four little hands we're glowing a bright pink and chanting "May this bright and heavy snow defend and befriend a little boy named Steve. We shall name you SnowGolem. Be wise, be gentle and be a friend in times of need." And the four little hands disappeared in thin air.

And so, on this cold night, a friend was born. Even though he was standing still and had a pumpkin on his head. From this day forward the SnowGolem brought joy and happines to all around him. Little children around the neighborhood wanted to play and make snow angels all around the SnowGolem. Dress him up with the most ridiculous clothes. But he did not mind. Because for once he brought Little Steve outside to play with all the other children. It brought a smile to the SnowGolems big orange head.

Eventually winter would turn into spring, and the SnowGolem would melt. But his magical spirit would live on, waiting, ready for the next winters snow. When time was right, SnowGolem would return.
