For a while I've been working on a special project that have have lent the name "REBELLION" to it. First it was "EVE OF WAR," then it was "OPEN WORLD," and now I have given it the name of a project of mine from long ago. The idea of the map has changed many times, from being the story of a scavenger on a small desert planet once ravaged by the Clone Wars, to a Republic Commander on a journey of war, to a ground soldier in the Galactic Civil War who faced the many horrors of the Empire and has decided to fight back, to the story of two worlds, that of the Empire and that of the Rebel Alliance, of starships and worlds destroyed by war, to a server of three sides, and finally to rest upon a story of a man who's only wish is to see the Empire in ashes. Though it has changed over and over and over, a constant has planted itself in the very fabric of the idea to which it implanted itself forever in my mind: Coruscant, a world of cities immense and unimaginable tales of both suffering and triumph. I caught hold of this world of Republics and Empires and would not let go, for I saw a world of stories, and a world of stories it was. I had in the past attempted minute creations that were to represent the city-planet of the Republic, yet they would compare not with what I would later accomplish. So please listen (or rather, read) my tale of woe, as I go from Coruscant to Coruscant in search of the perfect planet for a story greater than itself.
THE FIRST CORUSCANT
Originally for my Fleet Commander map, this Coruscant is arguably better than those following it. Complete with Dexter's Diner, a working subway, the office of Chancellor Palpatine, and much more, it boats a great deal more than many of my other maps, yet soon this version fell into decline, never to be used again.
CORUSCANT RETURNS
Returning for my renewal of CLONE WARS comes my text Coruscant. Originally consisting many hundreds of building identical in construction, this version was soon left behind as little use for it could be found.
THE WORST OF THE BUNCH
I know regret ever making a second attempt at CLONE WARS, for it is most certainty contains the worst of many Coruscants. Containing a minuscule Jedi Temple, Dexter's Diner, and spaceport, I will not regret calling this the worst creation I have ever made... well, besides "Lost Star Trek Map"...
A NEW BEGINNING
Coming back for a new attempt at Coruscant I began work on a world based in the time of the Old Republic. This quickly was neglected as I began to realize the need for a central Senate Building to bring the planet together.
THE OLD REPUBLIC
With a new idea I started work on the Senate Building. However, I was soon stricken with the realization of how dismally small it was, and soon I began to realize that a new world was needed.
THE MEGA-COMPLEX
With high hopes I began work on a new Coruscant, based entirely on the layout of Imperial City. It soon grew to massive size, complete with a small Jedi Temple complete with an interior, several spaceport bays and a larger Senate Building I believed this would be the final Coruscant. However, it soon proved inadequate for my ideas and was soon left behind.
A WORLD AT WAR
Inspired by a recent STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT II map based on Coruscant I began work on a sleeker and more robust Coruscant focused on combat between players, yet including an apartment building for Imperial players. I greatly liked this Coruscant, however, something seemed off... something that forced me to try again.
ANOTHER TIME AROUND
Similar to the previous world, I began work on the interior of the Senate. I soon found it unforgivably inaccurate, so I once again found myself looking for a better alternative to this design.
AN EMPIRE AT WAR
If this looks familar, it is either because you have seen in my STAR WARS: REBELLION post or you see some similarities with the Clone Wars Senate. I tried to make it overall larger and more robust, with larger statues and more dramatic proportions. I also redid the interior of the Senate to make it look better overall and more like what is seen throughout STAR WARS media. However, this is not the last Coruscant, as a few more will follow in it's footsteps.
A CORUSCANT FIT FOR A SERVER
Following the creation of a server based entirely on my desires I began work on several larger worlds fit for a multiplayer roleplay server. The Coruscant that was born from this is one of my favorites, with a decent-looking Senate and a deep-burrowing Level 1313 from which player were to fight dangerous Coruscant thugs. This, sadly, was not the last, but the beginning of a new trend fro me...
BATTLEGROUND
This Coruscant was based entirely on a Battlefront map created for the second game in the series. Following my previous attempts this was meant to be a battleground between players, a place of suffering and triumph for both sides. However, it was plagued with the dreadful shadow glitch making it unusable, giving way to the final incarnation of Coruscant...
A FAMILIAR WORLD
My final attempt at a Coruscant is a culmination of all I've made and worked hard on. Based on the Clone Wars Coruscant mentioned earlier and the many, many bridges I've made comes my favorite and last Coruscant. With titantic statues lining the path towards the Senate it works as the Senate Plaza for STAR WARS: REBELLION. Soon to be accompanied by a massive broadcast tower (a tower you must destroy, no less) this Coruscant will be the last of many and is all around the best I could but together.
I hope you enjoyed my many attempts at a fairly complex idea. Please stay tuned for more blog posts as I attempt to create ideas for mods! Mods that I could never make, of course :(
To hint at my next creation, I can tell you that it involves a certain Rico Rodriguez and also has to do with REBELLION as well, in it's own way.
