Hey everyone. This is an interview with bohtauri, creator of project 1845, minecraft's attempt at breaking a world record! Here is the list of questions:

Why did you want to start this project?

C418 visited our server a while ago, he tweeted that our server had the most impressive architecture hes ever seen. I was appalled, I knew I could do better and started researching which accumulated to 6 weeks for the dream project that I can call my best.

Why did you choose Beijing?

I started building the worlds first 1:1 scale replica of the forbidden city, I was living in Beijing at the time so I had the perfect opportunity to do hands on research for it. Then I stumbled on the Qianlong era map (from 1750) and as soon as I saw it I knew... I had to build it all.

Have you ever been working on this project and think "I can't do this?"

trick question right? I think that every day, but you can only do your best if you stare fear in its ugly face every day and knee it in the groin.

on a serious note, i have thought about it every day. I try not to think about the full scale, luckily there is so much to do, and so many different things to do that you can never get bored. from building imperial architecture, to slums, to fortfications and gardens. every day is different and 1 block closer to the end. Every beginner or visitor try to take in the scope, but you cant until u print out your blueprint, with 1 block the size of 1 millimeter on the blueprint and your blueprint is 10 meters by 13 meters in size.

Not only am I building the project, but interviews, youtube videos, the project will even have a big 500 page book coming out in a few months, the scale is immense and they only way to do it is one step at a time and we'll be at 2.1 billion blocks and over half a million unique buildings before you know it!

How many people are currently working on this project?
At the moment 95% of whats being built on a daily basis is done by me. The admin on the server build about 4% and other volunteers build ~1%. In the past we have had at least 60 different volunteers helping at some point. Some are excellent builders but they don't usually stay on the project for more than 3 weeks.

After you build this, do you have any future plans?
Not yet, possibly converting the map into other program formats so it can be explored on other platforms other than Minecraft.

Do you plan on becoming an architect? Or is this just your pet project sort-of-thing?
My hobby is the original qianlong map, its preservation and restoration. I love China ever since I lived there, and hope to share my love of Chinese culture with others.
Ok guys, thanks for reading! I hope I can do more interviews soon!
