~ Announcing the development of Antiqua Italia! ~
As some of you might have noticed, we've been rather quiet about the Vanillicus server lately. We believe it's time now to fill you guys in on what's been happening with regards to the future of Romecraft. Vanillicus has been a very interesting venture, and for the most part, it was pretty entertaining. But now, as the year is coming to a close, so too is Vanillicus. Fear not, however, for there is more Romecraft to come -- for the past month, we've been brainstorming and planning for a server to replace Vanillicus as the flagship Romecraft server. With introductions out of the way, we hereby announce Antiqua Italia!
This upcoming server will have a heavy roleplay focus, and will include many new features that have not been seen before on previous Romecraft servers. Set in Italy during the Second Punic War, the server will be centered around both civilian and military life in a proper Roman city, as Hannibal's army roams the countryside. The Romans will be the only playable faction, and the civilian side of the server will focus on local politics and political/social status climbing. Following the historicity of the times, the legion will follow the maniple system, with velites, hastati, principes, and triarii being the main ranks to climb as a legionary. Officer ranks will remain mostly the same as typical Romecraft servers. We've been putting in a lot of effort to set up a multitude of avenues for players to engage with each other in meaningful ways, from social politicking to taverngoing, and even gambling on board games and dice. Using optifine's CIT system with our resource pack, we've found a number of ways to enhance the RP experience by adding various 3D cosmetic items to buy using in-game currency, with certain items being used to demonstrate one's social status or military rank, thus creating a true RP purpose for making money. Legionaries, for example, will earn money from receiving certain commendations and looting battlefields, and will have the ability to purchase improved equipment with that money. Civilians, meanwhile, will earn money from selling resources or running businesses, which can then be used to purchase a domus, to advance one's social class, or to simply purchase a particularly expensive cosmetic item. All of these systems are designed to serve the server's main purpose: to facilitate solid, enjoyable RP experiences.
As of right now, there is no certain date in place for this upcoming server's launch, so stay tuned. In the meantime, Vanillicus will remain open until the end of the year, so don't worry.
Antiqua Italia is set to release in early July of 2020!
As of February of 2021, Antiqua currently has no set release date as to not make false promises. It will be done when it's done!
