How to build your base

---Intro---

So, if you have played Minecraft for a while, you probably know about anvils. They are great for repairing that precious enchanted pick or naming an item. They are nice little additions to blacksmith villager houses and are useful for naming your horse. Lots of people know about these uses.

---Story---

Now for a story. I like to play on faction servers, but I like my bases underground, where people can't see them. Unfortunately, this makes it hard for me to get aboveground conveniently, especially on servers where I have access to the End. I tend to set my home in the End for enderpearl/obsidian farming. Obviously, unless the server allows you to donate for multiple homes (which I probably wouldn't do anyways), getting aboveground is pretty hard. What I did is built a nice staircase to the surface and covered the hole with dirt. Sounds good, right? Wrong. If someone just happened to blow up that piece of land (which is pretty easy to spot if you have the usual factions plugin) you are dead. For a start, I placed iron doors and reinforced the entrance with obsidian. I thought I would be perfectly safe then. Of course, I was wrong again. Iron doors are easily blown up by tnt (not sure about creepers). Here is where the anvils come into play. While browsing the Minecraft Wiki, I noticed that enchantment tables and anvils have the same blast resistance as obsidian. After I unsuccessfully tried to place an anvil directly on top of an iron door, I tried to think of how to get the anvils to fall down if the iron door broke. I came up with 2 ideas. Idea 2 works better, but I put Idea 1 in case you wanted to see it.

---Idea 1---

At first, I tried just putting an easily destructible block in between the door and the anvils. This worked well, but if the person somehow managed to hit only the bottom of the iron door with the blast, they would have instant access.

---Idea 2---

This is a bit harder to explain, but here I go. I placed 4 blocks of any kind behind the iron door. Then, I placed the anvils on the two blocks above the door, instead of directly onto the door.

Here it is!

Where to build your base

--Introduction--

Sometimes, you will have an indestructible base that no one could possibly get into. Unfortunately, you still get raided because they kill you enough times to claim over you. You get mad and may or may not rebuild. If you do rebuild, you will build another base. This base will probably be in the Overworld or sometimes it will be in the Nether. Very rarely, people build bases in the End. I would recommend the End, but not just anywhere in the End...

--Procedures and Materials--

You will need:
Lots of any block besides sand or gravel
A good pick/shovel
Access to the End
A water bucket (Optional)
Whatever else you like to build your bases with

If you have access to the End already, skip step 1
If the Enderdragon has been slain, skip step 2
Step 1
Get some eyes of ender and get to the End. I would recommend 16 eyes of ender, if you are frugal.

Step 2 (Optional)
Kill the Enderdragon

Step 3
Go to the edge of the end and start building a thin walkway with your blocks. Continue until you can't see the mainland. Make sure to set render distance to 16 chunks every so often when checking the distance. Try to do this when nobody else is in the End so people don't see you.

Step 4
Build a small platform for your base, claim it and set the faction home there.

Step 5
Break the walkway you built.

Step 6 (Optional)
Use the water bucket and start building down.

Step 7
Build your base!

Pros and Cons

Pros

- Easy to get obsidian
- Almost impossible to find
- Good for enderman farming

Cons

- If found, the base is easy to enderpearl glitch
- It is hard to get resources like wood

I highly recommend doing all of the optional steps

I don't see how you could set it off on your own... And remember, this is a nice convenience not an absolute necessity.

That's right. If you don't know much about the factions plugin, you might want to check it out. Just google search 'factions plugin minecraft'

I think the title should be more something like "How to keep your base safe in a pvp server' because if I want to read this, and I do not know about the anvil trick already, then I will not type in "anvils" or anything similiar.

No Problem.
Also, use different fonts for titles and instead of the --Titelname -- you can do Title name with a line below (HR line or something, check the bb-codes)
