Are black and white colours??

Ok me and my dad have a fight over are black and white a colour my dad thinks black and white are colours I think not and my art teacher explained why you can not mix any combination of colours to make black or white and if you mix all the colours you get brown.So what do you guys think is black a colour or not.

if you get a colour wheel and spin it it turns into white. :DDDDDDDDDD

BTW what does this have to do w/ minecraft??
