Hello! I just want to say for now, this is going to be a messy way of formatting for I kind of suck at doing that sort of thing lol. I'll improve it over time, but anyways-
A Little Art History Abouts Me;
This is a blog where I want to post my journey to practice at getting better with art! I have always loved drawing, it started with silly wholesome family doodles and pieces of art we had to use in 1st grade to demonstrate what happened during our week (we also wrote like a few sentences about what happened along with the drawing).
As I got older I started leaning more into anime, and seeing the art and loving the shows I was watching I wanted to start drawing just like em! I even got a book on how to draw manga when I was a little teen. I also used to love drawing Gacha characters into more detailed versions, so basically using the designs as bases and just jazzing it up. After my Naruto drawing spree, I kind of slowed down and just did small doodles sometimes. (I think I actually have some of these drawings on my profile page under some art tab, they were pretty bad lol but I was proud of them at the time!)
Then I got into high school and boy, I was BORED in classes because I'd finish majority of all my homework 15-20 mins after the assignment was given/released. So I started drawing a lot more again, taking art semi-seriously but mostly just doing fun things. This is where I delved into small realism drawings for a long while as I found it fun to tediously eyeball images and get it looking real! I eventually stepped away from this to try more simple things. After that I've just on and off touched art, never truly studying just drawing something mostly from memory or just drawing from references. Now here I am, starting to really want to practice art to achieve my dreams of being able to have a source of income from one of my longest, most favorite hobbies!
I was fortunate to have an amazing art teacher, my mom, who taught me pretty much every fundamental thing I have learned that bases my art skills as a whole. She taught me the principles of art, and the elements. She gave me the good base, and then with art videos I basically just added knowledge to that base!
The First Month... (January 2025)
My New Years resolution was to draw every day, and follow Marc Brunet's 1 year schedule to improve on your own! Whilst I did keep to that, the unfortunate thing was I didn't draw new pieces every day. Nor was there anywhere near as much studying as I wanted, I would work on a piece for multiple days and this was all just due to life throwing me another January tragedy. So the images I'm about to share are mostly just doodles, some are more serious pieces but not most.
January 1-5

Between these two days, I made these two drawings. The rat was a random one while I waited for Phasmophobia to download, but the one on the right is supposed to be my starting point. All of it was from my imagination, other than a quick peek at a similarish pose and outfit. I'm still proud of it since I haven't drawn backgrounds before, and the anatomy didn't turn out half bad! I will redraw that one when the year is over :D
January 6-7

This was supposed to be the start of where I drew gesture sketches each day, but that quickly fell off unfortunately. I mostly just did a first go pose eyeballing it with a time limit, second time I traced over the other drawing to get a feel for everything, and then the sometimes third one is supposed to be a reinforcement method where you put what you just learned and retry from memory. Not the happiest with these, but I def don't hate them. I also was supposed to incorporate linework studies from art/shows I liked and I did one from Violet Evergarden as I adore the beautiful art from that anime <3
January 8

This was just a pfp I needed to make, and just dedicated my day to it. It's just supposed to be me, but I tried using what I learned from studying an image from Violet Evergarden's art style :>
January 9-10

This is where my seriousness to really study faded for a bit due to the excessive driving I had to do. It's also when Remington started not acting normal, so I drew a whole little panel of him on the 9th :D Then the next day I just did a doodle of Anya from Mouthwashing, she's not bad but like that hair could def be better lol that and my weird tendency to draw things and start leaning it all to the right.
January 11--whatever days I didn't draw something new

This is where I just couldn't keep up, and made him my side project to work on when I couldn't work on anything else. It's also when I started playing Marvel Rivals, and I finally was like man I love GoTG so so so much why haven't I drawn this wonderful bro known as Starlord! So draw I did! The left image is a bit cropped, both are since he's not done. I wasn't happy afterwards with the quality of his helmet being way better compared to his leather jacket and hair. So what I didn't share to PMC is me slowly adding hours and hours to what was supposed to be a silly little study, and the right image is what I have currently! I am way happier with how he is turning out, and I can no longer hate the leather jacket with all my heart lol
January 14-15

These few days were just quick sketches so I at least kept drawing, even if it wasn't a lot I wanted to have that little habit of actually drawing every day. The one on the left ended up making me think of Ino from Naruto.
Jan 19

This is just one of my draw whatever pages I do in church, this day I drew some sketches from what I saw around me and a couple other random things.
January 20-21

I SWEAR I am okay I just watched sad movies and wanted to see if I can convey that with only small parts of the faces. Also low energy day was just a low energy one, but I still wanted to draw so I drew me.
January 22

I felt like drawing something rainbow related, and ended up with this half finished drawing that I have now slowly really liked and might be trying to make an OC out of
January 23-25 was just more minor editing on mister Starlord himself.
January 26

Just another doodle page with some face angles, me trying to work on maybe OC, and drawing what I see. My sister wanted a snowman so he just chillin there too
January 27

I did not have it in me this day as I was stressing about Remington and just couldn't keep my eyes off him, so this is just a really bad 2 min sketch
Jan 28-31st
I unfortunately could not keep up with drawing every day, this is after Remington died and I was busy getting him cremated and cleaning the cages and looking after my other guinea pigs. These 3 days were a break from everything, but I did start drawing again In February :>
Reflections; Looking back I could've definitely drawn more even when a bit stressed. Since I really didn't start out the strongest with this months end half. I think the only thing I'm working on is just drawing every day, and then hoping to improve the movement bodies have as a lot of my drawings can feel really stiff sadly.
Thanks for reading if you've made it this far, once I get into studying a lot more there will be more notes and technical stuff I will be able to share.

Honestly Im not sure exactly how to tackle drawing during the hard days. I think my loose plan is to just maybe to try out drawing vent art during days like that, or maybe go back to basics and just draw shapes to slowly get me into the mood. The more you accomplish most of the time it gives that little boost to keep going! That or watching art videos, they're to me at least pretty inspirational and get me to wanting to draw more. If I had some art books Id say even trying to draw something from that, since you dont have the extra pressure to plan to draw with the added stress from rough days.
Ah I see, I like the idea of drawing basic shapes. I think thats the one I use the most; if I'm having a bad day, I just do warm-up execersises as a way to at least practice the motor-skills a tiny bit haha :D I will try the art videos though. YouTube has been recommending me a bunch of interesting stuff, so probably time to watch it and clean out my watch-later playlist :'D
Thats fair, its always good to practice the motor skills fsfs. Lmbo I feel the piling up of my watch later list, sometimes its def good to clear it out and watch some of the art stuff I throw there tho
As for your art, I think it's amazing Guinea. I definitely think you have a very unique style. Love the ones you did of Star Lord, the self portraits, the drawing you did of the snow man and of course of your Guinea Pigs. The other art is really beautiful as well.
Only thing I can really tell you, and I'm sure you've probably heard this already, is to just keep practicing, and try to learn as much as you can. The more you do it, the better you'll get, and I can't wait to see where your art journey will go from here. 🙂
Hehe thank youuuuu :D I really hope to develop that style to be nore consistent haha its fs a bit all over lol
PRACTICE 💪 THE BEST THING FOR A PERSON TO DO! :D
Either way. Quite a lot of different styles you make. Some stuff looks pretty neat (jan 6-7). Some could use some contrast (jan 14-15).
My condolence.
