You probably already know about griefing teams such as iCanHasGrief and the tactics they used to get op on servers that they would then grief. Although some of these videos are more than 2 or 3 years old this is still a widespread problem, as a server owner I can say that alot of the new player I get off planet minecraft will ask for staff and either rage quit or start spamming/insulting me or other players on the server when I say "No". If you are wanting to get staff on a server don't spam the current staff members there or the owner. Don't ask for it it will just lower your chances of getting anywhere near being ranked up and may just get you muted or banned.

Of course it's especially frustrating when it causes you to lose players and after you put all that time into thinking up your rules and then posting them on signs in your spawn in CLEAR view and writing them on your submission. Of course not many people pay attention to signs/rules in a server spawn but please.. at least make an effort to be reasonable.. it should be rather obvious that most server owners will not randomly give out ranks or creative mode as it can easily be used for griefing or causing other issues. Saying you are from planet minecraft and threatening to take the server down will not help either.. being a keyboard warrior and threatening to hack won't help you out either.

Example of a possible exchange (Based off what i've already experienced)

(playername) *begins to use foul language and insults owner*
Owner: /ban (playername) Foul language, Asking for ranks after repeated warnings to stop

Just asking "Can I be staff" or "Do you need staff" can get rather irritating as well, this could seem like you are just showing others that you think you are more deserving/entitled to being a staff member when there could be players who are working much harder and have been waiting much longer to become a staff member and that may tick them off that some guy who's only been playing for 2 minutes thinks he/she can get a staff rank. No.. Don't say your a youtuber and you are going to record and you want a staff rank. I personally really do not care how famous someone is and think they are under the same rules as everyone else. And I would assume that most server owners would not promote/op some random guy who claims to have a big youtube channel. So please.. Don't do it, it's extremely annoying and you could not only be banned but you are just making it more stressful for the staff members/owner who are probably already working hard enough keeping order on the server. If you are a staff member or an owner, don't promote people who ask for it, make sure you see that they can be trusted otherwise you may just lose players who were working hard to earn a staff rank, people may leave because you will seem irresponsible, and your server could just get ruined by 1 decision you made to promote someone who really should not have access to some of the in game commands or areas such as your spawn, someone who has op could easily destroy/crash a server in only a matter of seconds or minutes.
