Greetings All,
I would like to introduce you to this blog about Bumping and what it means.
Bumping is a word commonly seen on the forums and most people do not
understand what it means, which I find is quite sad, so here I am to help your understanding.
I wrote this blog because I always see the word "Bump" on the forums, and I
just wanted to show you guys (the viewers) what this term means...

mdMtvDPpng

Bump is a term used to boost your forum's views...
It is an abbreviation of Bring Up My Post (B.U.M.P).
A "Bump" brings an old post back for everyone to see again...
It gives the owner of the post, another chance to get some views.
Which may cause his post to become popular, and get some subscribers.
How do you feel about always seeing the word "Bump" in the forums?

lvmzVmpng

Bumping on submission's are not allowed, unless you actually have updated the post.
So make sure you do not use the Update Log just for bumping, because your submission
will probably get removed and you may even get banned for a while.
On Chat when you are trying to "Bring Up My Post" you may only post a link every 15 minutes.
On the Forums only use B.U.M.P. every 24 hours, so keep that in mind and don't get
yourself into trouble with the Moderators....

I think bumping is a desperate attempt to get more views, especially on necro-bumping
(when the post is completely dead and you bump it, to get some more views).
So make sure you do not over use this helpful tool in the forums...
Do not get yourself into trouble, by making sure to read the paragraph above on how to use it...
If you are confused, I can answer your questions in the comments.
I hope this post improved your knowledge on Bumping + What it means...

I have a question...
Why do people despise necromancing (necro-bumping as you call it) on threads in which it's contents are still actual?

I was browsing the Ubuntu forums, trying to find an answer to one of my issues. I used the search function, as any forum will shout at you to make you do, and found a thread with something that was really close to being perfectly similar to my issue. Yet the thread was not marked as solved, even though it was 8 months old, I decided to bump it, explaining that this was still an issue that should require attention.
Guess what, I was banned. Banned for pointing out a bug that has been sitting around for 8+ months because I didn't create a new thread. What purpose would a new thread be? I mean, you'd have to link to all the similar threads, making hell of a mess, and you would also have members spitting on you because you didn't use the search function, even though I actually did, but found no useful answers.
So now you have 2 identical threads, because the community decides that this is better than keeping the topic within, well, the same topic.

Well what you did was not really "Necro-Bumping" and I do not think that it would be bannable (but I have no say in things like that). What you did was ask for help, which is not what I believe "Necro-bumping" is. I believe Necro-Bumping is when the owner tries to push a post up to the top of the recently updated, in a desperate attempt to get views.

I believe it would be more correct to say that necro-bumping means bring up my dead post.
Not to thrash your post, but I've been spit in the face several times for necromancing someone elses (or my own thread where i request help) threads I believe requires more attention that it already got.
If I bump my own thread it's normally after 2 months or more, but some people tend not to like it and rather want you to create a new thread. I don't get that.

Well maybe if you weren't necromancing someone else (unless it was a good reason like you needed help ect.). The only help I can try and tell you is that do not bump your post but update it with new features. What you said was pretty much what necro-bumping is but I will not say B.U.M.D.P. because it sounds like a word a five year old would use :3

Bumping can be a useful tool. I recently submitted a server, and had lots of technical difficulties posting the description. Because of that, the first time I posted the server, It had next to no info in it (no description is usually a deal breaker for me when joining a server, and I can't be the only one who thinks that way) I finally got all the info posted, but the original posting got ruined for potential players. As I slowly get through the finishing touches (creating and adding more renders, adding rules or other details I may have forgotten) I can run those updates at a prime time to get a second chance. Yes, bumping abuse is annoying and generally used by people who don't upload quality work anyway, The best we can do is hope for someone to figure out a way to nerf repetitive bumps by OP, and until then, weed through the crap to find the diamonds :D I liked this blog, good job :3 Diamond for you!

Thanks, Bumping is definitely a useful tool, but when abused the mods are on the case :3

In my opinion, I despise bumping. It's just useless and people just spam it everywhere. They put a "bump" on their forum posts every 5 minutes and then a mod says, "Only bump once every 24 hours."

It just gets out of control.

I agree, It can get out of control, but when it does the mods will see it....
Maybe if they keep on doing it, they will get banned for a short time (but this is just my guess)

Nicely explained

I find the Sub-Headings slightly hard to read with slight color blindness, but still, nicely done! :)

Thanks, I am sorry I forgot about people with colour blindness...
Is there a specific colour I should change it too?
