Hey Pmc! As you may have noticed, I have not been blogging for a while!
I have been on the forums checking out the Roleplaying section.
Im back here to talk about:
BUMPING
We've all seen it.
Bump!
Its a word used to move back submissions to the top of the last 20 posts area in the forums. Some people take their bumping to a creative level and use funny custom bumps such as:
Bumper cars
and
Bumpdabump.
But bumping is not all cars and das. Sometimes people abuse the power of the bump. Because bumping is a pretty big power.
WHEN ITS BAD
User said 10 minutes ago:
This is my skin shop! Post any skinning requests here!
User said less than a minute ago:
Bump!
"Only bump once every 24 hours!"
That is the rule that is being broken here. This user has bumped after only ten minutes. Sometimes its even worse though. Some careless users bump every 2 minutes. This is considered (and actually is) spam. Spamming bump every 2 minutes will easily get threads locked, and the user who bumped could recieve a Pmc ban. (Probably temporary but you never know!)
The update log
Now the update log. As most people know and understand, the update log is only for big changes:
Blogging: Adding a new paragraph
Skinning: Shading in your skin.
Modding: Adding a new item to your mod
Building: Adding a new part to your build
Texturing: Texturing a new item, so your texture pack is up to date with the updates.
But the update log can so easily be abused. In blogging some users put:
Corrected spelling
In the update log. And here's where the bumping comes in. Some users just use the update log to put their submissions at the top of recent submissions with a bump!
WHEN ITS GOOD
Necroposting is one of the main lockers of forum threads. (along with off-topic posts and inapriopate comments). When a thread "dies", if someone posts on that thread, the thread gets locked for necroposting! Thats where the good bumps come in. If a thread is one day from dieing, a bump is all that is needed to save that thread! Remember, if bumping was illegal on Pmc, yes it was stop the update log from being abused (sometimes), but hundreds of threads on the fourms will perish and die, and then get locked for necropostings on threads!
HOPE YOU ENJOYED MY BLOG ON BUMPING!
SEE YOU ROUND!
