I love horses, and I love how Mojang is finally going to add them.

Along with making travelling faster and more fun, horses will allow combat to become more interesting.

But how do you use horses in combat?

The horse's advantage is its speed. Your best bet for successfully destroying a foe's group of peeps is by breaking your force and charging at them from different directions. Your speed will make it impossible to choose between enemy, and we all know that in Minecraft combat, orders are not going to be followed mid battle.

Now, for anti-charge tactics.
Now, in the real world, to resist a cavalry charge you 'form square', but this will not affect the power of a Minecraft charge. Instead, it is best to break your force up into just individuals or, if you have more than the homely team of three, to create small groups. If you can split your enemy, they cannot devote as many men to as large a target.

An even better tactic is to lure your enemy into a space where they are hemmed in. A canyon or street, say. Horses can barely back up, and their sideways speed is lacking, so that while they attempt to flee you can rain down arrows, fire and brimstone!

However, be aware that streets also provide your force with a disadvantage. If an enemy on horseback groups at the end of a street, they can charge and smash you before you can retreat.
