The 1.9 Combat update for Minecraft has been announced for a little while now, with some insane new additions including new blocks, temples, mobs, dual wielding, shields, new potions, and the list just continues! With these additions declared, a bit of anger erupted amongst quite a few unhappy players. But all in all, is the update really going to be that bad?

This has happened in the past, where a new item or block has been added to the game. At first, everyone whinges and complains, but later on everyone is just fine with it and accepts it. This will almost definitely happen to 1.9. Those that refuse to agree with the 1.9 additions will initially whine, but within months of release everyone would've calmed down.

Adding new things gives an opportunity for even veteran and experienced players to learn something new and experiment. When no updates are released every so often, the game can become boring. Nothing to learn, everything there you know. What more is there?

Besides, how are you to judge the update? No-one has played the update yet, considering snapshots are yet to be released, leaving us only with screenshots. For all we know it may be amazing! Of course opinions and perspectives will vary amongst the millions of players, but those who so far despise the upcoming changes may end up enjoying it.

At first I was against the update, but I eventually realised there is nothing I can do. I'm sure one persons opinion will not decide whether the update is established. We just have to welcome the update as apart of the core game.

Many PvPers, including myself, believe that this will majorly affect PvP. Even to those against it, would it not be fun to experiment with some new sweet additions to the game? It would add a nice twist to combat.

Only thing I'm still questioning is how this will affect UHC...

With this update, some may leave, some may return. Old players who quit the game may feel intrigued by this update, and may hop back on the game to check it out. This update will definitely spark something up, and have some positive affect towards the game. But who am I to talk, I'm just one of you guys with 0 experience of the update.

So in conclusion, all the whingers who are against this update will end up accepting it. There is nothing much we can do, and I'm sure most people are looking forward to it anyway.

I disagree with two things. Firstly, the thumbnail, players drive the game, and put money in the developer's pockets. Change isn't something we have to accept, after all, we paid money for a game we wanted, if we didn't want it anymore, we could storll up on Mojang's doorstep demanding a refund. Secondly, you said "how are you to judge the update" and "no-one has even played it yet". Quit spouting nonsense. Player made content (Mods, Texturepacks, etc) has probally already added anything this update will add. Shields, new potions, dual wielding? Not really new concepts thanks to mods. Don't say we can't judge whats in the update when some of us have already played the game with what the update is adding.

You provided some good points, I didn't really think of it from that perspective. Thanks for the feedback.

I agree on whole with you. I'm in my opinion pretty good at PvP and it makes me a little excited about the update. Considering it's for combat. I'm curious as to what the new blocks will be, and reading up on the things planned in the update. I'm excited for the new mobs,  and dungeons. But, some people who are old fashioned might not like it as much.  =/

Yes, but eventually all the servers would've updated to 1.9, you'd be forced to update. (unless you want to continue on singleplayer).

People complained about every single update anyway, but I think the only ones especially furious with this one are the "skilled" survival games players
