The Hunter - IGEBM
I walked through the portal I had opened with Dr. Golden’s, barely functional, collider. I had been “reality-jumping” as Golden had called it. Hopping from reality to reality over and over. My dimensional GPS broke 3 jumps ago, so I had no clue where I was. But considering the Collider being on low power, it would’ve had to reach a branch off my first reality, so I was still in a Chaosus dimension.
I was in a large steel chamber, almost pitch black. After a second several lights surrounding the Collider shined at me, making it hard to see past them. A loud distorted voice came over some speakers somewhere in the room.
“Traveler, lay your weapons down and identify yourself!.”
Traveler. That was what Dr. Golden called the collider testers. I pulled out my sword and slowly and clearly laid it down, followed by my rifle, pistol, two knives, and grenade belt. You could never have too much firepower. I looked up to a window high above me where I assumed my observers were. Though I couldn’t see them past the light.
“I am IGEBM of Chaosus 1001.09, Sent by Doctor Golden, Legion ID #819.”
After a pause, the lights shut off, and the door on the other side of the room opened. Several Legion troops in the orange and black Central District armor walked quickly over to me. They were armed, but didn’t seem to be attacking.
“We’re going to have to detain you for safety reasons sir, I apologize for the inconvenience.”
“What dimension is this?”
“Come with us peacefully sir, I assure you, we’re your allies as long as you’re ours.”
I hesitated, then nodded. They handcuffed me behind my back and led me out of the room and down the hall to a holding cell.
I can’t believe I gave up my weapons, I kept thinking. I kept pacing back and forth in the cell waiting. It took about ten minutes for someone to come back. As the door to my cell opened, I saw a face I hadn’t seen in well over a decade, but could never forget.
“IGE?” Si asked. “That’s you right?”
“Yeah? What do you mean?”
He entered and the door shut behind him, then he took a seat on the bench against the wall.
“I can’t believe I’m seeing you right now.”
“What do you mean? Did something happen to me here?”
He sighed. “It’s a long story, but yes. We lost you a while ago. I didn’t think I’d see you again.:
“Well you’re technically seeing someone else; I’m not your IGEBM.”
“Don’t ruin the moment bro.”
I chuckled. “Okay. Could you take off these handcuffs?”
He stared.
“Seriously, can you take them off?”
“... IGE… Are you sure you’re here on good terms?”
“Yes! Honestly, I show up with an arsenal of high-powered weapons strapped to my back and you all think I’m threatening or something.”
“Ha! Yeah that does kind of seem ridiculous.”
“Take them off Si.”
“Fine.”
He took them off and walked over to the door.
“Follow me.”
He led me down the hall to an elevator, which took us to the 50th floor. The door opened and revealed a small room with a round table in the middle, at which sat every one of my friends I hadn’t seen in a while. And based off what Si said, they hadn’t seen me either. Greief, Cloud, Neon, the Supreme commanding Legionmasters, and Spencer, leader of the Luminous Gang. We stared silently and awkwardly for several moments before N3on stood slowly and spoke.
“Si? Is that him?”
“I think so, good him. If that was ever a thing.”
“Hey!”
He laughed. “Sorry.”
“It’s me guys, not your me, but my.. me- wait… I don’t know! Yes! I’m IGEBM!”
“He doesn’t seem maddened.” Cloud said.
“What the flubber does that mean?”
Greief stood so fast he nearly knocked his chair over.
“IT IS HIM!!!”
“Wait, that proved it?”
They started surrounding me and asking questions and patting me on the back. I tried answering them all but had to push back.
“Hang on! I get you’re happy to see me, but I came here for a reason. Now can someone please explain what happened here?”
“Why are you here?” Neon asked.
“... Let’s just say… I’m on the hunt. I can’t say much else.”
We sat around the table as Si explained about the ship that crashed on PMC and infected my counterpart, turning him into “The Maddened One” and nearly destroying this and one other universe.
“Ah, and you thought maybe I was like him?”
“Yes, we can’t be too careful after that.”
“And my knockoff swears where enough?”
They all shrugged and laughed.
“So what were you all discussing when I came in? It seemed serious.”
Cloud spoke. “I assume they have Astral Beasts in your home universe.”
“They did- They do, yeah.”
“Well when the Maddened One was here, He was our only problem. He kept the beasts at bay, but whether he or they were worse is hard to decide. Now they have nothing to fear and attacked my District, the West District. It took only several hours for it to be overrun and destroyed.”
“Where are they now?”
“On their way to our IGE’s district, the North DIstrict. Their scouts will be there in less than a day, and the Swarm will be close behind.”
“We’re sending some of my troops through the Nether portal network as reinforcement.” Spencer said.
I looked around.
“So who’s in charge of my district?”
