Choosing a Host!

Starting a Minecraft server can be a lengthy process. But before you can build and setup the server you have to get a host. With hundreds of hosts out there, it can be a hard decision. So whether you are new to picking out a host, or have done it many times before, here are some tips!

The first thing you need to decide is whether you want shared hosting, VPS hosting, or dedicated hosting. Shared hosting means that you share a whole server with other people. All accounts on the server must share the resources. This means that the server is alot slower, and more people are packed in. VPS hosting is short for Virtual Private Server. On VPS servers each person is allotted an amount of space on the server. This means there is less people on the server, and the server runs faster. Dedicated hosting means that you get the whole server to yourself! No one else i able to go and put their stuff onto it. Most people go for VPS hosting as their first server. If you are running a large server, with multiple worlds and Minecraft servers, go with Dedicated. I do not recommend using shared hosting unless you can't get anything better.

After you have picked that out, you need to decide how much disk space you're going to have. Most hosting companies offer 256MB as their lowest package. But unless your running a vanilla server with a few of your friends, you should go higher. The average Minecraft server, with around 30 players and about 20 plugins, has about 1.5GB to 2GB. It is said that you should add 10MB of ram for each player. Remember! If you're running a modpack on your server, you'll need more ram!

Another thing to look at is how much HDD or SSD space do you need; and which one should you get. Space on the server shouldn't be too much of a problem, unless you are running a large server. But most companies offer plenty of space. Picking out which one you should get isn't that big of a deal. SSD runs alot smoother and faster in some processes, but for a Minecraft server it isn't a big deal.

So you've picked out most of the specs you want for the server! Now comes the time to pick out the actually company! This can be a long process. Make sure that the company you choose looks like it is trusted. Make sure they have good uptime on their servers. Here is a list of some bigger companies that do hosting:

~CreeperHost  https://www.creeperhost.net/
~MCProHosting https://mcprohosting.com/
~BeastNode https://www.beastnode.com/
~GGServers https://ggservers.net/

These should be good companies to host your server off of, as they are very large companies. Also, remember that paying for servers can be alot of money! They charge monthly. If you are unable to pay, but feel you have a awesome original idea for a server, head over to the forums. You may find someone offering a sponsor. Sponsors will give you a server to host your server off of. But many of them may be picky, and many will backstab!

Once you have all of this done, you can begin building your Minecaft community! If you found this usefull or like the information, leave a Diamond! If you have any questions or anything to add, leave a Comment! Thanks for reading!

The thing is about servers is the money invested in them...and all the work and time

I use OwnageHosting, for the single reason of how cheap it is.

I've used Cubed host, they're pretty nice. You can (sorta) choose location, shared hosting, VPS hosting, or dedicated, memory and max player count, they allowing custom jar, snapshot support, and good tech support. But anyway, nice blog!
