Here is a video on how to make ground storage that takes up no space!



Tutorial:

1: Place half slabs in the ground where you will want the chests.
2: Place a block with and kind of rail on it over that half slab. Put a minecart on the rail and break the block.
3: Use a piston to move a carpet over the half slab and minecart.
4: Enjoy the ground storage.
