In snapshot 14w27a rabbits were introduced to the game.
In snapshot 14w34a they saw an AI overhaul. IT WAS A DISASTER!
Rabbits now had the AI of regular passive mobs like pigs, cows and sheep. They can no longer be tamed, they no longer flee, and they have a new choppy walking animation!
This makes rabbits a boring mob which you simply find and kill, and their breeding mechanics are now the same as any other mob. They are a lot more boring. Since you cant tame them that means you cant get them to follow you around like most other mobs.
Rabbits were just fine before (apart from the teleporting), but they have been ruined! The old AI was more realistic, made rabbits cuter in their behavior, and brought another pet to the game!
This may have been intended to clean up and fix bugs, but its just created new bugs such as the choppy animation and issues regarding the Killer Bunny.
There are many other downsides to this change, I recommend you check them out for yourself.

You will be able to tell when you find one, its bloody and has terrifying eyes.
The old AI had it's problems too. Those pesky "wabbits" were constantly all up in my face.
Also yes it had its problems, but the main one by far was the teleporting, the old AI just without the teleporting would be fine.
