Are you tired of having your base raided and/or griefed on a Hardcore PvP server? Are you tired of being discovered, killed, and raided on a Hardcore PvP server? Just hear me out and give a diamond then. This first part will be devoted to your first few minutes and to set up a base.
Step 1: Get as far away as possible, preferably to a forest. This you want to do during the day or wait for day. Run, swim and dig quick. If you find a forest a good way away from spawn, mark the coordinates or simply stay the night.
Step 2: When night falls, unless you had luck to find a forest and get wood, a sword, pick, etc., dig down 3 blocks of dirt and go in the hole. Then, block up the block above you. If you found wood, got a sword, pick, torches, etc., find aa small and block it off with dirt except for a 1x1 window. If you are concerned about other players, stay out of the field of view and sneak to hide your name.
Step 3: Wait for day break and come out. If you had the first option of step 2 happen, wait for 7 minutes, check, then pop out and keep running, repeating steps 1 and 2. If you got through the success of step 2, you can expand to get some cobble and maybe find a cave system or resources you can use.
Step 4: Set up a temporary base or, if the spot is good enough, a permanent base using what is suggested below. Once a base is set up, get good tools, start mining, then craft diamond or iron gear and prove yourself in the Hardcore PvP world.
The next section will be ways to hide you and your base.
1. When in it, sneak. If anyone spots your name, you will likely be targeted, raided, and/or griefed.
2. Don't put something noticably manmade as an entrance or as the base. A major thing they will be looking for is unnatural objects such as cobble or a door. Some things you could use are smoothstone or iron ore, which isn't as good as some people look for iron.
3. Don't put a visible light near the entrance. Some raiders go at night because bases with a visible light near the entrance are easily seen.
4. Make your base underground or in a mountain, concealed heavily with fake things, like make it look like a mineshaft that was abandoned, or add many twists and turns.
This last section is for things you need or may want in a base as a bonus.
1. You need a small room with a workbench, a furnace, and a large chest filled with junk like dirt and gravel. Hide your valuable diamonds in the furnace. Most raiders go for chests and presume the furnaces are empty. They take the junk and leave you with your diamonds.
2. Load the outside with traps such as landmines, pitflalls, or dispensers filled with arrows, preferrably behind lava.
3. Have a 4-digit combo lock at the entrance using AND gates. Here is a video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtC0ONeXpqI&feature=related - This was made by TheKyshu. Check out their channel here: http://www.youtube.com/user/TheKyshu?feature=watch
4. Have a heavily concealed storage room filled with large cests. Say..., make a tiny room that looks like a simple cell trap, a chest with a sign saying, "(Insert-name-here's) Diamonds Only!" behind an iron door with a button powering it. If a thief enters wrong, he's in a cell trap, but if you enter right, a secret door opens up to the storage room.
5. Add a library, which can add class and double as an enchantment room and a brewery.
Now, I could go on and on, but I will just stop here, it's long enough already. Let me know what you think, leave a comment or diamond. This is my first blog ever.

Keep it up!
-Build the door/tunnel entrance facing north. This will prevent it from being spotted on livemap
-Do not build any form of a ceiling on above ground. It's best to have an underground base
-Build erratically. Seriously. If you look on a livemap with the isometric x-ray function, you can see tunnels. If you make your base look crappy, your good. Make it square, people will wonder whys there an unnatural square there.
-Be fast! Get in your base and out as quickly as possible when you need to go to it.
-Build at night. I mean real-life night, when the server is empty, as to avoid people finding you while you make it.
-And, of course, follow B1nary's tips. His tips work beautifully on a server without livemap. But pair it with this: and your golden on a livemapped server.
