There were dark rumours in the quiet neighborhood of Palyn. You could hear whispers everywhere about the skies being invaded by gods of the night... at noon. Eclipse became a contagious word in the rural village - a location that appeared to be far away from all intelligence and technology of the rich.
Darryl could see doors and windows being closed and boarded shut around him. It seemed like the residents were preparing for the halt of hope in Life and Light. He was haunted by the thought of complete darkness that lasted for a short while, and no one in this town knew how it would come except a stack of papers describing the darkness that happened every few decades. Almost every entry began with the hundreds of people who died during the events.
...Two hours have passed since the supposed time of the event. Every villager and merchant, more confused than ever before, took even more of their time to block out every trace of exposure in their homes. It seemed the gods have considered giving the humble people better preparation, or otherwise prepared themselves, too, for a greater destruction in the Eclipse.This wild and infectious thought jumped into every person's mind, including Darryl, despite in the midst of broad daylight. Have the gods spared Palyn? Or have they saved the hopeless village for the worst?
Numerous feelings clashed within Darryl, which compiled into amalgamations of fear, despair, wonder and awe. This village, he thought, may suffer the worst of disasters, and I must get out of here. His decision was final, but as he attempted to escape the doom, the entire area seemed to be pulling him back towards its center. No, this cannot be happening. As he travelled slowly across the grey road path, he noticed everyone around him suddenly disappeared either into the safety of their homes, or out of thin air. There he laid in the epicentre, kneeling.
All hope was lost in him. His fate was clearly sealed in this village, at the mercy of the Light, and the Night. He tried to force out tears of loss, but all that was lost was suddenly his bodily control. He could no longer move, nor cover his face to block out the horrible Eclipse from his sight. All he could do was look up at the blinding Sun. He saw a black edge slithering in from its side.
This is it. He could observe that part of the sky turned completely dark, forming a clear line between azure-blue and jet-black. Then he heard screams of horror and pain around him. His turn would be next when that fated line touches his stiff body.
That was not to be. Someone, or something, gave him the urge to pray to his God. Part of his possessed body permitted him to do so as he uttered the words, "Save me, help me," and, "Deliver me." Louder and louder did he shout as that line accelerated its grasp towards him. Suddenly, he could finally close his eyes...
Darryl woke up in the middle of the night, completely astounded. It worked, I'm free. He felt a terrible nightmare would be worth sharing, until he looked at his digital alarm clock. 8 am... in the dark. Could the darkness have consumed both dream and reality? Did Night conquer Life and Light? ...Well, apparently not.
In a matter of seconds, light suddenly flooded the room and the bustling city outside. He confided to himself - relax, buddy, it was just an eclipse.
