Hello Fellow Members of PMC! :)
Today, I have yet another blog for you all! It's going to be another blog on my ideas for future minecraft inputs.
So, today I'm talking about emeralds, and I believe they should have more uses.
Let me explain...

Okay, so I believe that emerald needs to be more of a common gaming item. It's only used for trading, which can be useful for getting food, diamonds, armour etc.
But emeralds are so rare, that they should be a bit more useful in the game. You have a better chance of finding diamond than emerald, so why is diamond so useful, and emerald not?
Im not saying that emerald is useless at all, but it needs to be a bit more involved.

Armour:
Due to its rareness, It should be STRONGER than diamond.
Leather > Gold > Iron > Diamond > Emerald?
Each level of armour, adds an extra 1/2 of protection per piece. For example: a zombie hits you and you deal 3 hearts, you are wearing an iron chestplate, when you switch to a diamond chestplate, you will only deal 2.5 hearts. Do you get what I mean? So If there were emerald, you would deal 2 hearts in that situation.

Swords:
This also applies to swords as well. Diamond sword on their own deal 3.5 hearts without armour, so a emerald sword would deal 4 hearts!

Tools:
Tools would be the same, because some tools deal extra damage than your fist. Emerald tools would be slightly faster than the diamond ones. Axes, spades and pickaxes would break at the same speed as the diamond variety, with an addition of efficiency I or II.

Durability:
They would have a longer durability, preferably between 1500-2000. Diamond has about 1300 durability, so emerald should be slightly higher.

This would be like making armor out of dollar bills or euros.

I think that trades should involve gold rather than emeralds. And unlike paper bills, emeralds are nearly as strong as diamond.

In this case I’d probably off set this effect by requiring emerald armor/tools to be made out of emerald blocks, as well as incorporating iron or gold ingots into the crafting recipe. (Probably gold because you want to maintain the rarity of the source for balance purposes.)
