I can still remember the shock from when it happened..

It all started on a perfectly normal day in my village, Vertrose.
"Jenima!" my mother, Ajah, growled. "You're going to be late for the Elder's Choice"
"Coming!" I replied as I scurried down from my room, my claws digging into the soft wood of the wall.
As I reached the bottom of the trunk I saw my mother laying impatiently just outside our home. She flicked her black tail towards
the huge log where the Elder's Choice took place each year, on the first , signalling that it was time to go. Already, many cats
were waiting around the log. I rolled my eyes and leapt out the door. We both began towards the log.

The perimeter of the log was already surrounded by cats and the Elder Cats were already standing atop the log. Many of the Elder
Cats' fur were white, but some were a light shade of grey. They all had something unique and mysterious about them. Some had an extra tail, some had bright colours on the tips of their ears and some had combinations of many different features. All of them had a certain commanding aura. They were the leaders of our tribe and tonight they would select their newest member. This year was the first year I was old enough to be chosen, but I was sure that I would not since I was very withdrawn and didn't enjoy company. Once someone was chosen they changed. Their fur would become lighter and they would gain some kind of unique feature. My fur was a deep shade of brown, and I was perfectly happy with it.

After a few minutes the Elders began to call for everyone's attention.
"Attention!" Dan'ust, one of the oldest Elders said. "It is time to reveal the selection for the newest Elder!"
Rilia, another Elder, who had light grey fur and purple tipped ears, stepped up on the stage-like stump. She was holding a light
purple orb that appeared to have swirling lights within.
"As you probably remember, this orb will select the best fit candidate to be the newest Elder." she said calmly. "Sunset is
approaching, and it is almost time to release the orb, and choose our next Elder."
As the sun was falling beneath the horizon, Rilia gently released the orb from her hands. The orb remained in the air, and, after a
few seconds, began moving towards the crowd. It slowly hovered over the crowd, gently bobbing up and down constantly. It flew over the crowd and, when it reached the area I was standing in, suddenly stopped. I tilted my head upwards and stared, wide-eyed, at the swirling orb. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Me, Elder?
As the orb slowly moved down, my thoughts were racing. The orb touched the tip of my nose and a bright flash shined into my eyes.

The next thing I remember is waking up in a huge tree hollow. Many of the Elders were walking around me and when I lifted up my paw, it was coloured dark grey with bright blue pads.
