“But I thought we were friends!” I exclaimed. “Why would you do this?” He was livid. I had no clue why. We were the best of friends.

“We were never friends. Maybe to you, but to me, you were an obstacle I had to move. Everyone loved you, not me. Goodbye, brother.” said Herobrine.

He pushed my hands off the edge of the cliff with his boot, and I fell into the void. Nobody knows what is at the bottom, if there even is one. I fell for ages before hitting something hard. Everything faded to black.

*****

When I awoke, I found myself staring up at the sky. Big, blocky clouds passed over a square shaped sun. "How strange!" I thought to myself. I sat up, only to be greeted by more blocks. Trees, or at least what looked like trees, stood around me. It appeared that I was in a forest of sorts. There were pigs, cows and sheep roaming around. They were blocky, their faces just pictures on a cube.

I stood up and walked up to one of the trees. Something urged me to punch it. Upon striking the bark, a crack appeared. I looked down at my hands, and was shocked to see them replaced with blocky, unnatural shapes.

I ran, hoping this was just some twisted dream. I stopped at a pool of water. I kneeled down at the edge and decided to splash my face with the cool, blue liquid. I lowered my face a couple of inches from the water. I could see my reflection, and just about fainted the instant I saw it. My head was a cube with a picture for a face, just like the animals. I splashed my face. When the ripples cleared, I was greeted with the same image." What has happened to me?!" I thought.

I collapsed to the ground, exhausted. I could not believe what had happened. How could it happen? Then with a pang, I remembered the fight with Herobrine on the cliff. He had pushed me into the void. This must be what happens to everything that falls in. I got up and looked around, hoping to find some shelter. I saw what appeared to be a village, and decided that was my best option.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by villagers. They crowded around me, curiosity filling their eyes." They probably have never seen anything other than the animals." I thought. One of the villagers approached me.

“Hello there. Welcome to our village.” He said. “You are welcome to stay as long as you like. We have a cottage you can use. It has everything you may need.” He explained.

“Thanks! You are very kind.” I replied. He led me to the small cottage. I opened the door, and found a bed and a chest. There was also something else. It looked to be a sort of work table. I tapped it, curious to see if it would do anything.

To my surprise, a panel popped up in front of me. It had a grid with an arrow next to it pointing to a little window. Below that, a bigger grid. It had dark grey text titling it “Inventory”. "I wonder what this is?" I thought. The villager must have seen my questioning look because he explained what the mysterious table was.

“That is a crafting table. It is used to make tools, building materials, and other objects. The part titled “Inventory” is where those objects go.” He said.

After he left, I looked at the sky. There appeared to be no clocks anywhere, so I had to use the sun instead. I saw the sun sinking below the horizon and decided to go to bed. I was exhausted from the day’s events.

I did not sleep well. Throughout the night, I was disturbed with the same dream. In it, I watched as my brother threw himself into the void. As he fell, he transformed into the same blocky character I was now. Except, instead of the blue eyes I had, his turned white. Then, everything went black and an evil, sinister laugh filled the darkness. I woke up, covered in sweat.

Screaming filled the night air. I peered outside and was shocked to see the villagers running away. I looked at what they may be running from and saw fire engulfing the village. I stepped outside and ran towards the blaze. I was going to try to save anyone I could.

As I approached the flames, I stopped. I was going to find a break in the fire and find the safest entrance possible. While I was looking through the fire, I noticed a figure approaching me. He walked through the fire like it was not even there. When he was close enough, I saw it was my brother. I knew it was him because he looked like he had walked out of my dream.

“Greetings Steve.” He said. “Have you come to admire my work? It’s quite a piece of art.”

“It looks like you decided to wreak havoc on this village, not at all like art.” I responded. “Why did you jump into the void?” I asked. It seemed pointless to me; to enter this world. Minecraft, as the villagers called it, was not that glamorous.

“Isn’t it obvious? Do you not remember the stories we were told about the bottom of the void? I knew you survived and had entered this place. I could not stand the fact that you were still living.” With that, he drew a sword from behind him. It glinted in the fire. “It is made from diamonds. The diamonds make it very strong. It killed the villagers I slayed in an instant.” he sneered.

He swung, and I dodged it just in time. I took off running, not sure where to go. I ran out of the village, and found a cave. Hoping to be hidden from Herobrine, I ran deeper and deeper. It was very dark. Suddenly, a light appeared. Stone turned to bricks as I entered what appeared to be a dungeon.

I wandered around the maze-like passages until I found a room containing a portal. I walked up the steps leading up to it and looked down. A black curtain of sparkling mist greeted me. I took a step back, startled. Then, Herobrine appeared. He began to swing the sword again, but before he could strike me with the sharp blade, I pushed him over the edge of the portal. He fell, arms and legs flailing around for a hold. The mist engulfed him, and in a flash of dark purple light, he was gone.

I exited the cave and ran far away. I built a home and a small farm. Sometimes, I think I hear Herobrine calling my name on the wind, but that’s impossible. He is stuck in the other world, never to return.

    Or will he return?
