I am sure that a lot of you guys would like to create your own video games and with all the tools that are offered to us these days, It's possible for everyone who owns a computer.

This article will be threating how to start your game, and the way you should think while doing it. Plus a list of a couple useful softwares :)

1. How to start your game

- To make a game, nobody should be starting a with an idea or a project in head. Everybody who is new at game creation should start small, and work around what you can do. For exemple, start with a cube, make the player able to move him and add mechanics and functions that the player can do and try to work around it.

- Never start with premade game templatesto add stuff to and finally call it a game. It's never a good idea First, you will not learn anything. Second, chances are that someone already realease his game that he made using that same template and you will probably end up mad that you wasted your time.

The only thing I would approve about using a template is to break it into small peices to learn.

2. How you should think.

Don't expect your game to be comparable to the huge titles. At first, for most people, the first game will be shitty but as long as you did your best and learned something you are the winner.

If you are making your game and expect to make money or have the first goal of making money out of it, You are wasting your time. It will end up you trying to speed up the process by copying others code, not learning and having a really boring game. If money is the main thing that makes you want to make a game, its a waste of time.

If you don't know if you should make your game 2d or 3d, make it 3D. Lets not forget you are a beginener and 3D can be really hard to work with.

Don't be shy to ask questions. Nobody is perfect and asking for help is not something you should be shy about. Asking for help is a great thing, First because you will learn something new and second, you will learn from your errors and have less chances of doing that same error again.

Do not think that tutorials are for bad programmers. Even really talented programmers still watch tutorials from time to time. But don't watch the tutorial to copy the source codes and paste them in your project. Instead, write it by yourself and try to understand it.

3. BONUS

As I said, everybody with a computer can get into game making.
Here are 2 game engines that are free and made some of the triple A games.

Unity Engine(Easy to use)(Standard edition free and has all the features you need with no Trial)(Great Features)
unity3d.com/get-unity

Unreal Engine(Harder to use in my opinion but better shading systems and graphics)(Great Features)

Both websites have documentation that you can refer to learn new things and are explained very well.
They also have some video tutorials.

To model Blender is a great 3D modeling software that is free and works for both Game engines.

Hope this helped andI also hope that I encouraged you to get into the wonderful world that is coding!
