Good old times...

I started playing minecraft at 1.2.5, most of you would say I started pretty late, but I don't care, it's where I started.

I was a noob, I didn't know that much about minecraft, couldn't craft without the use of minecraft wiki, and I didn't know what 90 % of all items did.

My first creative creations were a desert Inn with a small railway leading to a mine, an underground ice base, and some redstone tests, and actually, I still can't make better buildings than those...

Because I guess almost every minecrafter loses his "motivation" or such after a while, things aren't new, and even when there's an update, it still doesn't give you that feeling you had when you just started.

Yeah, I've got better, I know every recipe, I can make quite good redstone things, and more, but I miss that feeling, that feeling you get when every block you place is mysterious, like it has magical properties, or does more than you'd expect.

Or the first time I actually joined a server...

I thought that plugins weren"t plugins, but just features in vanilla minecraft, and I tried to do the things you could do with plugins in single player worlds.

I saw plugins get popular, and then get discontinued, or totally changed, I saw servers who had 200 players, and then, after an update or 2, it only had around 20...
for example NyanCraft, and others. (NyanCraft was the first server I ever joined).

I've had friends & lost them.
I've made buildings and got griefed.

But most of all, I have lost that feeling, I lost the feeling you get when you see new things you don't understand. I lost the feeling of being amazed by buildings, being amazed by new kinds of servers like hungergames, and being amazed by mods & texture packs.

I remember the first mod I ever tried to install & totally failed at..
Minecolony, I was amazed by the thought of running my own colony, with NPC's and quest alike things.
I remember I totally messed up the installation.

I also remembered one of the first times I tried downloading something and clicked an ADF.LY advertisement link.

After that, I stopped downloading things some time, but now, it's something I do pretty much, downloading mods or texturepacks.

I remember the times before the "Budder" spam, and before the huge spam of PVP & Faction servers.
I miss those old servers, just survival, small communities, where everyone was nice.

No spamming "please donate" or "tell your friends"

I sometimes wonder or there's some sort alike server still out there...

I also remember finding my first coal, I was totally unsure about what it could do, I also remember finding my first iron & gold, I made armor, and thought gold was better, but yeah, most of you should now that gold isn't better than iron, so I got killed pretty much.

I also remember falling into lava the first time.

I was like "NOOOOOOOOO" and then ran back to the lava, I didn't know items burn when they fall into lava, so I searched the whole cave for my stuff.

When I saw a spider jockey for the first time, I literally ran at it, just to see it from more closely, and then I had to kill it because I'd be killed otherwise.

I also remember my first faction, I called it "madmax3004", I was pretty bad at English back then, so I just named it by my username.

I could tell you allot more about my first encounters on minecraft, and my stories, but hey, that's for some other time.

So actually, I love 1.6.2, not because of the update & such, I mean, yeah it's cool, but because of the launcher, and possibility to change to older versions, because now, I can play alpha, beta, and my old version, where it all started, 1.2.5...

Thanks Mojang, Notch, Jebb, and all others for giving me the possibility to build my dreams and play this epic game.

Thanks...

Got on the pop reel, thanks everyone for supporting this blog!

This always helps me remember back when i was a NooB; I did not know how to craft,I didn't know how to scroll on the hotbar,(This is when i was playing the minecraft demo) I loathed hostile mobs,Especially witches and creepers; Then one day i went mining without a pickaxe and got stuck in a cave deep underground and could not find the way out. When i purchased the actual minecraft and was not a noob anymore, I went to the world named Demo_world and saw lava, jumped in and respawned on the surface.

No problem, and yeah, i miss that mystery feeling, i didn't know about most things, i didn't know about how spiders were evil at night only, so i attacked every spider (died allot XD) at day & night.
i was proud of dirt houses, and yeah, now i'm not that proud anymore, i miss it.

wow, cried? o.o well, i guess, erm, no problem?
I'll be writing some more blogs and most likely gonna bring out some redstone & scoreboard advanced minigames, so if ye want, ye could subscribe or such.
---
I remember the first moment i actually got really smart at minecraft, reading some guides, i was like "hey did you know..." to other players, but pretty fast i got to know that they all knew those things, but i was still proud that i didn't need other people's help anymore.
I think that's a big part of being new, and why it's special, if you're online, you ask people's help and (if they were as nice as in 1.2.5) they'd help you out, make a base with you, and teach you stuff you'll never forget.
I remember 2 people, i'll never forget them, but they most likely already forgot me.

I know what you mean about the feeling that you felt back in those earlier versions. It felt like a complete adventure, because you were always discovering new stuff. But now, since I know basically everything about Minecraft, it doesn't feel like much of an adventure any more.
PS. I started playing Minecraft in 1.0.0

I started in 1.7 beta and i know exactly what your talking about. back then the best things were dispensers and cake, and before i could get the game i watched nothing but mod reviews and adventure maps by the yogscast, not to mention shadow of israfiel! i thought their youtube channel was all vanilla minecraft. i had no idea about griefing, or raiding, or anything like that. when 1.8 beta came out i flipped my @#$% cause so much was added at once ad it reminded me of that feeling. i think you get motivation from taking periodic breaks so everything feels fresh again. that's what i do

I started at 1.5.2, I must have been VERY late.

I was also a noob, I was thinking "What the heck?!" when I saw a flying tree.

But this blog reminds me of that time, it was hilarious when I messed up at Minecraft surviving and creeper hugging. (No seriously, I thought they were friendly. O.O)

I still haven't seen a floating tree, or at least a legitimate one.
Only chunk error floating trees.

i started on cracked 1.2 and i set fire to my house thinking that a fireplace wouldn't burn wood. when i bought minecraft it was the day before 1.1.0 came out and i joined my first server. it was the first server that i ever went on and found gazamo on it ( knew who gazamo was then). i found this guy called R3J3CT who was my first minecraft friend and we did everything together. the next day, when minecraft 1.1.0 came out, all of my servers were deleted and i couldn't find that server again. i'm still searching for R3J3CT and when i find him, oh the joy!

I love that we can go back now. It's the best of both worlds. Now instead of reading of version history on MInecraftwiki.net and trying to guess when I joined, I can used trial & error (on minecraft? I'm not complaining) to actually find out.

I can play again with no hunger bar! :o

Lol, I wish. All you had to do back then was hook a redstone loop up to a door to crash most servers, or to set off a ton of tnt. Happened more than you could imagine.
