Griefers, and Admins.

Some of you may know what I'm talking about. An often situation I find myself in.
hqdefaultjpg

In most cases, Nobody wants to meet the griefer, especially when they find themselves face to face with your freshly made house. May it be out of dirt, a grand cathedral, a mansion, etc. These guys go out of their way to blow it up, or leave their dirty tracks somewhere whether it be the smallest dent, or meaning your house is wiped from the land...although that means you'll have a freshly man-made cave under what USED to be your house. Like this...
fa_ljpg
Mmm... the smell of freshly burnt houses. Wait, you can't smell it? Oh...

Then on the other corner, the Admins.
We all know them. Those fearless admins who aren't afraid to bring down the ban hammer. Even if it is the wrong person sometimes.
Speaking of that, sometimes admins are corrupt, or they don't know what they're doing, and when something happens like this.
They brush it off. :s
An example of a corrupt admin is an admin who bans innocent players for no reason, or for speaking against his/her own opinion.
The good admins are another story though, they understand why they were put at the position and do what is needed.
A lot of time what happens when someone is griefed, or stolen from, the ban-hammer is thrown down, especially if the owner counts it as a severe rule being broken. (Oh noes)
Especially in these situations is what makes or breaks a server for me. If I see in the chat that someone is having a problem or was griefed and the admin isn't doing anything (if he's/she's not busy) that tells me the staff are bad. Or when I see staff abusing power, that right there is a reason for me to leave and not come back.

Both have power, and can cause destruction, but it's really on whether they decide to cause havoc or not.

it's worth noting that a lot of corrupt admins try to stop good ones rising through the ranks

On my server, we have 4 staff ranks Helper (Trial/Pre/Junior Mod), Mod, Admin, and Owner. Helpers have a somewhat limited amount of commands (Mostly simple commands that can't do much lamage like /jail and /mute). Some of the Helpers want to become a Mod which also comes with more responsibility and more commands. My motto for a helper who wants to become a mod is "Act like an Admin if you want Mod" If players show a high level of responsibility, then they can obtain mod which has more commands like /ban and /invsee which can be abused,. Hence the need for a high level of responsibility. Sometimes we test helpers (who don't know that we are testing them) by giving them some higher level commands like /tempban and /co rollback. Then observe them to see if they are ready. If they are we promote them and observer them some more to see if the new rank has changed their overall ability as a staff member has changed, for better or for worse. I also keep multiple backups of the server just in case a griefer does un-rollbackable damage or destroys one of our CoreProtect files.

I hope this comment helps some server owners with their troubles (or those who wish to avoid them).

Nice blog!

I absolutely hate bad admins (or badmins), they are so mean :( I have been an Admin/co-owner before, griefers are the worst.

Yeah I don't like bad admins either :s and sometimes griefers like to cover up their tracks. So it keeps me busy for hours interrogating people. It's funny though

My trust for people to have a higher rank such as mod, is the hardest thing to get xD

I don't trust people so easily. Except the main owner, who trusts people to easily, and gets the server wreaked up, because who he gives mod and admin etc to.

The server has recently lost some worlds due to a player he trusted, not sure who though :/
