Hello all, welcome to my rant.
I have been seeing on the forums and multiple places on the site where people call griefers hackers. Well, griefers are NOT hackers! Here are some of the words and definitions to review:
Griefer:
Someone, usually in an online game, who intentionally, and usually repeatedly, attempts to degrade anothers experience or torment them.
Hacker:
An individual capable of solving complex non-intuitive problems in a seemingly intuitive manner. The processes and techniques used are not necessarily methodical to the observer, but yet achieve results significantly and consistently faster than known experience would predict. A hacker is not defined in terms of intention or purpose, but rather by the talented single-mindedness of method.
Computer Hacker:
A person skilled with the use of computers that uses his talents to gain knowledge.
White-hat: System administrator.
Black-hat: Computer hacker who hacks systems for their own profit; malicious hacker.
Grey-hat or Ethical Hacker: Computer hacker who is hired by companies or people to test security of a system or systems.
BUT, the people who design griefing clients ARE hackers because they use flaws in Minecraft's (or a server software's) code to allow people to do things not possible normally.
And then you have what are called SCR1P7 K1DD135 (Script Kiddies) who are wannabe Black Hats, but they just download scripts from the internet and usually have no idea how things work.
The definition of "Griefer" and "Hacker" or "Griefer" and "Computer Hacker" are very different.
