Griefing- A Bit of Fun or a Minecraft Crime?

I have noticed that a increasing number of servers are being griefed, this, I believe is a result of several contributing factors (of which I will speak about later). Although to many griefing seems like a "fun" thing to do, even though servers have been known to shut down because of extreme griefs caused by griefing teams such as team AVO and team Reddit. In this article, I will post arguments both for, and against griefing, then you can make your decision whether griefing should be tolerated or not, remember to post your view in the comments section!

Why Griefing SHOULD be tolerated.
Griefing is fun, and after all small griefs can amuse the griefer and possibly the victim. Small griefs on Raiding servers should definitely be tolerated to allow people to "break" into peoples houses in order to raid. As well as that who doesn't like watching team AVO!? I can in point of fact admit that team AVO's griefs have gone too far, to the point that they are laughing at the victims because they care about their stuff being taken through cheats and mods, but that doesn't say anything about griefing a little bit does it? A little grief here and there won't upset anyone, would it?

Why Griefing SHOULD NOT be tolerated.
Before I start on about minecraft griefs I would like to point out that, if you went into a museum, house or shop and smashed, broke or set fire some items, it would be illegal, and if caught you would be sent to prison. Now think about walking into someone's house or a public building, in minecraft, and destroying, smashing or setting fire to some items, that is also illegal, so if you wouldn't commit the crime in real life then don't do it in minecraft. As for team AVO and team Reddit, they deserve to be banned on every server ever, they are totally immoral and, plainly should just not be playing minecraft. Griefing hurts other people, and, Griefers probably wouldn't like it if someone griefed their house, would they?

I had a "friend" who had my console for about 2 weeks and helped me build my server up, however one day I decided to ban him in my own rights and remove him from access to console, but he deleted my server. Everything, and that's not it, he had his own brother oped on MY server after that and claimed he was the owner taking my paypal my money everything. So, the next time you see this name: Robertholt2012 and Camship13 Stay well away from them. PvP.CraftGrounds.now.im is his server and I built TWO spawns for him.

Do you think griefing should be tolerated?: yes, though I see where it is a problem.
Give a few reasons for your answer: Well most servers have back ups and rollback features. So getting griefed is not a big deal as it would just require a back up to be used. Though there are some times those very few servers who just decide to jump right in with out ANY knowledge on running a server, they don't know what back ups are or what roll back is. And they leave everything unprotected. Frankly I think those server owners kinda deserve to be griefed.

Where the problem is: It can be annoying and frustrating, and it is typically only fun to those doing the grief and those watching it on youtube.
Have you ever griefed? (just out of interest):Ã Yes I still do. I run a griefing team called Grief Team TNT. We hunt down random servers that are easy to grief or servers where we got OP. ( www.youtube.com/user/GriefTeamTNT )

Do you think griefing should be tolerated?: No, and if you greif on any server without permission, you are an asshole. In fact, I think it should be legally considered vandalism and worthy of large fines.
Give a few reasons for your answer: It's just wrong, simple as that.
Have you ever griefed? (just out of interest): No, except for fun with friends, and I always help them fix it.

Do you think griefing should be tolerated?: Yes and No
Give a few reasons for your answer:YesGriefing Is fun and entertaining. Even people who do not grief enjoy watching video's that are posted of them breaking stuff and having a good time. They find it more funny when they get a reaction like making the people cry in it (which isn't a good thing). Either way it is a good way to unwind and maybe help self confidence.
By Making these other people cry you are hurting their self confidence. Griefers are doing all this just to get a reaction which I know im giving a reaction right now. Theres a difference between harmless fun of taking advantage of taking advantage of the powers given to you out of trust. But then again by abusing this it will hurt the persons trust and there for make them cautious of who they let into their 'life' so in the long run it damages the person. Its okay to go around breaking crap, everyone enjoys that... I was even okay with people who did that on my server. But when they came on and hacked it... that was bad and I find should be Illegal (Im still looking into finding if it is) They somehow took over the server, gave themselves op under my name in hopes to getting me demoted from being 2nd in command... How they did this? I have no clue it had to be some sort of hack. But then they got into the server shut it down white listed it and destroyed it. This is to far and I think should get them their IP banned from minecraft all together...
Have you ever griefed? (just out of interest): No But I have considered it.

I agree it can be entertaining, but there is a limit when you are making people upset, I think that is the limit, If everyones having fun, then it's fine

I'm not sure what happened, after that incident my friend and i found a new server and made a new base there. About a week after that my friend made a server himself so we play on that one now.

Give a few reasons for your answer: I remember when my friend and I joined a server and we decided to make a sort of underground hotel (we even asked the admin if we could and he/she said it was ok) so we did we put a bit of supplies in a crate that we didno t need, and I even grabbed resources from the forest that was outside to make a lot of wooden equipment. My friend was in charge of decorations and such. About two days later someone came through the door with diamond armour and weapons, but we didno t really care (by the way none of us were armoured or had weapons) when we had our backs turned the guy killed my friend, some of the guests and myself. We then told him to leave and asked if he saw the sign outside of the tunnel and he didno t reply. When we came back he killed us and then started calling our hotel his house. If that wasno t bad enough he then called in some buddies who also had diamond armour and then started killing us when we came within 20 blocks of our place. My friend got mad while I was away and made lots of TNTo ¦ he decided to bomb there house (not ours) and the guy who stole our house called him a griefer. That whole time I tried to find a diplomatic solution.

Do you think griefing should be tolerated: No

Give a few reasons for your answer: Well, as you said you wouldn't go inside someones house and burn stuff or break or steal stuff. When you are having a dispute with someone, some people might do so, but most won't do so under normal conditions. Picture yourself making a drawing, or doing something you find fun and then someone comes along and just burns everything you've done while you are away. You don't like that feeling you get when something you made gets broken by people who wanted to break it to please themselves for some minutes. Imagine it as a real life building, It takes time to build it, but to explode it, provided you don't care about what happens to people around, is easy. Of course if you play with a friend and choose to pull a prank on him, that is often okay, as long as it doesn't go too far and he knew you were joking about it. Besides breaking what someone else spent time making just for fun is kinda "Douche" no offense.

However on raid servers my opinion is different because the point of raid servers is mainly to survive and there are not many rules like "Don't steal from other players" because that is a part of the objective and that is how some people like to play the game.

Have you ever griefed: Nope
